In this article it is planned to characterize the level and variability of strong ground motion in near field of large earthquakes due to source effects. We have developed a stochastic rupture model that characterizes the variability and spatial complexity of slip as observed in past earthquakes. We model slip heterogeneity on the fault plane as a spatial random field for 21 near source earthquakes. The data follows a von ...

The capacity spectrum method is used in this study and the spectral demand curves are estimated for 89 records. The records having low signal to noise ratio in the frequency range of less than 0.3 Hz are excluded, and the rest of records with appropriate quality in long periods and a PGA (at least for one of the three-components) greater than 50cm/sec2 are processed and analyzed. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the physical resilience of the 22 neighborhoods of Babol located in the north of Iran against earthquakes. The methodology of this applied research study is descriptive-analytical. In this regard, by initially studying similar national and international studies, using the expert opinion of seismology and urban planning specialists and interviewing experienced urban managers in the field of crisis management, 30 effective indices on physical resilience against earthquake risk were extracted. Then, using analytic functions of GIS software and multi-criteria models including AHP, TOPSIS, VIKOR and COPRAS, the physical resilience of Babol against earthquakes was evaluated. Then, in order to obtain accurate results, using the integration models including the Statistic, BORDA and COPELAND, the physical resilience of Babol's 22 neighborhoods was evaluated. The analysis of the final GIS maps shows that neighborhoods 2, 3, 4, 5, and 11 have very high physical resilience and neighborhoods 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 have very low physical resilience against earthquakes.

The Bam earthquake of 26/12/2003 (Mw6.5) has demolished the city of Bam, having a population of about 100000 at the time of the earthquake. The Bam fault- which was mapped before the event on the geological maps- has been reactivated during the 26/12/2003 earthquake. It seems that a length of about 10km (at the surface) of this fault has been reactivated, where it passed exactly from the east of the city of Bam. The fault has a slop towards the west and the foci of the event was located closed to the residential area (almost beneath the city of Bam). This caused a great damage in the macroseismic epicentral zone; however the strong motions have been attenuated very rapidly, specially towards the east-and west (fault normal) direction. The vertical directivity effects caused the amplification of the low frequency motions in the fault-normal direction as well as the greater amplitude of the motion on the vertical direction.

Studying the aftershocks is important from different aspects; for instance, the impact of aftershocks on the structures damaged in the earthquake from the one hand, and the disturbance caused in the rescue process from the other hand (Hough & Jones, 1997). The importance of study the distribution of aftershocks can be used to estimate the amount of energy release in most seismic zones, the seismic zones, length of the activate faults and the process of migration of aftershocks (Ogata & Shimazaki, 1984). The main purpose of this study is to study the probability for strong aftershocks or larger mainshocks for Kermanshah zone using the Reasenberg-Jones relation (Reasenberg & Jones, 1989). To this end, the catalogue of the Kermanshah earthquakes between 2017/11/12 and 2019/03/16 has been collected and homogenized among which five earthquakes have been selected to study their aftershock decay rates. Reliable seismic hazard studies depend on having a robust earthquake catalog, good knowledge of tectonic conditions and relevant attenuation models applied for the hazard calculations. The better input for hazard analysis results in the more reliable parameters and seismic hazard assessments. The first generations of seismic hazard zoning maps in Iran were developed based on the deterministic approaches for calculation of maximum intensities (e.g. [1] and [2]). In 1982, Bozorgnia and Mohajer-Ashjai [3] published the first comprehensive probabilistic hazard assessment for major cities of Iran. The first PGAzoningmap for the greater Tehran region was also published by Berberian et al. [4]. The next generations of seismic hazard zoning studies were carried out for dam sites, which were under construction during the 1980s and 1990s in Iran. A seismic hazard zoning map of ...
