Here we present a case of human psittacosis mimicing acute monocytic leukemia which demonstrates an extraordinary clinical presentation of psittacosis. Key Clinical Message: Human psittacosis should be consider in cases who show typical and atypical respiratory signs hence pigeon keeping or pigeon fancying as a hobby is common in Turkey. Detailed medical history should be taken in suspicious cases.

Hemosiderotic synovitis develops in men with hemophilia who are at risk of hemarthrosis, especially of the knees, associated with severe degenerative articular cartilage disease. It appears to be exceedingly rare in individuals without hemophilia and has been reported in case reports. We describe a case of trauma-related nonhemophilic hemosiderotic synovitis, located in the hand in an otherwise healthy young male construction worker, with no systemic illness, inflammatory arthritis, or any bleeding disorder. We report the first case of nonhemophilic hemosiderotic synovitis located in the hand. To the best of our knowledge, a case of extra-articular nonhemophilic hemosiderotic synovitis has not been previously described in the literature.

This tumor involves both superficial and deep soft tissues and presents more frequently during early adulthood as well as in middle age. It equally affects both sexes. Recurrences occur rarely after wide local excision, and metastases are not frequent. In this manuscript, we present a soft tissue giant cell tumor exhibiting features of aneurysmal bone cyst and discuss the histological differential diagnosis.

Surgical intervention is one of the treatment options of pilonidal disease. However, it has been a matter of debate, whether histological analysis of surgically resected pilonidal disease specimens would be necessary. Material and Methods: Medical records of the patients with pilonidal disease who underwent either primary excision and closure or modified Limberg flap surgery were reviewed retrospectively. The results of the histopathological examination of the pilonidal disease specimens were evaluated. Results: This study included 905 patients (686 male and 219 female) with pilonidal disease who were treated with surgical intervention. The mean age of the patients was 23.96±7.5 years. All surgically excised pilonidal disease specimens of the patients were histopathologically evaluated in order to rule out malignancy. No malignancy was detected. Conclusion: We conducted a Pubmed search with the term "pilonidal" between January 2000 and March 2019. We identified 91 patients with malignant degeneration arising on pilonidal disease in the English medical literature. The most common pilonidal disease associated malignancy was squamous cell carcinoma. Even it is rare, malignancy may accompany pilonidal disease. Therefore, even we have not encountered any malignancy in 905 patients with pilonidal disease, we still insist on histopathological examination of all surgically resected pilonidal disease specimens in order to rule out malignancy.

Materials and Methods Medical records of 484 patients who underwent tonsillectomy were reviewed retrospectively. Descriptive data of adult and pediatric patients were presented as percentage. Comparisons between asymmetric and symmetric hypertrophy groups were performed to determine the features of asymmetric hypertrophy. Results The mean age of 484 patients who underwent tonsillectomy was 13 years (range: 3-69 years). While 372 (76.85%) patients were operated for infection, 100 (20.66%) were operated for tonsillar hypertrophy, 1 (0.21%) for a suspicion of malignancy, and 11 (2.27%) for other various reasons. Asymmetric hypertrophy was seen in 25 (5.16%) patients, whereas symmetric hypertrophy was seen in 75 (15.49%) patients. Malignancy was detected in three (0.61%) adult patients with asymmetric hypertrophy. Tonsillar tuberculosis was observed in one foreign patient with asymmetric hypertrophy. The presence of malignancy was higher in the asymmetric hypertrophy group (three patients [12%]) compared with the symmetric hypertrophy group (none) (p=0.002; X 2 =9.27). Median maximum specimen diameter was 3 cm (range: 1.15-5.5 cm) in the asymmetric hypertrophy group and 2.4 cm (range: 1.25-4.8 cm) in the symmetric hypertrophy group (p=0.08). The Friedman grade was significantly (p<0.001), positively, and strongly (r=0.885) correlated with the maximum specimen diameter. Conclusion Routine histopathologic examination of the tonsillectomy specimens might not be necessary for all patients, but it is recommended for the patients with a real asymmetry.

Immature ovarian teratoma is a rarely seen germ cell tumor. Although testicular germ cell tumors ... more Immature ovarian teratoma is a rarely seen germ cell tumor. Although testicular germ cell tumors and their association with chemotherapeutic retroconversion have been reported at a substantial rate of 2%-8% in the literature, the retroconversion of immature ovarian teratoma to mature teratoma is quite uncommon. It is important to reveal this conversion by biopsy for establishing a subsequent treatment chart of patients. A 45-year-old female patient was operated on due to immature ovarian teratoma. Then, she was re-operated on, because local recurrence occurred during the drug-free follow-up period, and systemic chemotherapy was administered. Liver metastasis was detected after chemotherapy, and the liver biopsy demonstrated a mature teratoma. This case is presented in this paper.
