The multi-stage random sampling technique was used to select 80 ginger farmers. The results of the Cobb-Douglas production function show that seeds, fertilizers and manures on small farms, fertilizers and manures on large farms, and seeds, plant protection chemicals and manures on overall pool of farms can contribute to increase the yield of ginger. The results of allocative efficiency have highlighted that the MVP/MFC ratios are more than unity for seeds, fertilizers and manures on small farms, and seeds and plant protection chemicals on pooled farms. The study has suggested some measures also to enhance yield and hence farmers' income in ginger production.

Realizing the disadvantage position of forest dwelling communities, Government of India passed The Schedule Tribe and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 (FRA). The act aims at granting legal entitlement, empowerment and improvement of livelihood by way of various provisions of the act, but due to lack of proper awareness and impediments in the implementation this goal was not fully achieved. The present study was conducted in the tribal majority district of Kerala, Wayanad, where FRA was implemented to strengthen the social security and livelihood improvement of forest dwelling communities. This study attempts to enlighten the status and progress of FRA in Wayanad along with its impact on the major tribal communities. The assessment of impact on socioeconomic and livelihood improvement was done based on the primary data collected from 160 households of four tribal communities viz., Paniya, Kuruma, Kattunaika, and Urali, which are the predominant communities found in the study area. Study revealed that Kuruma community found to have 'very good' socioeconomic condition after the implementation of Act. There are positive outcomes in terms of socioeconomic status and livelihood progress of other communities as well but the difficulties in realizing rights and utilizing it lead to the poor impact of FRA, 2006 on them. Highlights m Even after 11 years of implementation of FRA, 2006, the impact of act remains meager among the major beneficiaries due to lack of awareness and defective governance.

Research paper thumbnail of Impact of Macroeconomic Policies on Agricultural Prices

This paper re-examines the dynamic relationship between monetary policy variables and agricultural prices using alternative vector autoregression (VAR) type model specifications. Directed acyclic graph theory is proposed as an alternative modeling approach to supplement existing modeling methods. Similar to results in other studies, this study's findings show that over the time period analyzed (1975–2000), changes to money supply as a monetary policy tool had little or no impact on agricultural prices. The primary macroeconomic policy instrument that affects agricultural prices is the exchange rate, which is shown to be directly linked to interest rate, a source of monetary policy shock.
