This study aimed to determine the proximate biochemical and anti-nutritional compositions of the selected parts of mature yacon plants grown in Doalnara Aposkahoy Claveria, Misamis Oriental. Materials and Methods: For the biochemical composition, the selected parts of yacon were analyzed in terms of dry ash (using a furnace), crude lipid (using the Soxhlet extraction method), crude protein (using the Kjeldahl technique), and carbohydrate (calculating the percent difference) using the AOAC methods of proximate analyses. Meanwhile, the antinutritional composition determines alkaloids (using the alkaline precipitation gravimetric technique), oxalates (using the titration method), and phytates (using the Lucas and Markaka procedure) contents. Results: Findings of the overall biochemical composition indicated that carbohydrates came out as the highest (77.97%) followed by ash (9.96%), protein (8.91%), and lipid (3.18%). Comparing the different plant parts, the flowers and leaves registered the higher proteins and lipids contents while tubers showed the highest carbohydrate content and the leaves the highest ash content. Results also showed significant differences in protein, lipid, ash, and carbohydrate contents on the selected parts of yacon. These differences in the biochemical composition of the different parts may be due to the differences in biological functions. On the other hand, the anti-nutritional analyses indicated that oxalates had the highest concentration followed by alkaloids and lastly phytates. The flowers of yacon have shown the highest oxalate content while stems, tubers and tuber peels displayed higher alkaloid contents. Conclusion: Overall, the yacon parts that have promising biochemical and antinutritional compositions are the flowers in terms of protein, lipid, and oxalate contents; leaves for the ash and phytate contents; tubers for the carbohydrate contents; and stems for the alkaloid contents.

In science education, this revision in the curriculum posed a mismatch in the past teacher preparation and current basic education science education curriculum. As a response, a flexible training program was conducted to address this curriculum gap. This study investigated the improvement of science teaching efficacy utilizing rapid project monitoring through a pre-experimental research design. Standardized adopted questionnaires were utilized before and after the training program. At the end of the training program, teachers were found to have improved in all aspects of science teaching efficacy except in the personal science teaching efficacy, which indicates success in achieving the training objectives. In addition, all targeted concepts for science teaching efficacy were improved after the training. The results of this present work support the notion that pr...

In this study, we investigated the teachers' workloads and well-being and explored their relationships with the academic performance of the students. High school teachers from three divisions in Northern Mindanao, Philippines participated in a survey on the extent of their workloads and their workplace well-being. Majority of the respondents reported moderate to heavy workloads. They also responded positively in all three domains of well-being considered in this study. Comparing the teachers' responses with the National Achievement Test (NAT) scores of their students reveals no significant relationships. The results suggest that there is no direct link between the teachers' workloads and wellbeing and their students' academic performance. However, the moderate to heavy workloads reported by the respondents reverberate a pressing issue in the educational workforce. Furthermore, based on the responses, among the three domains of well-being, the environmental domain scores the lowest. Thus, for policymakers and school administrators, we recommend considering the work environment and the workloads of the teachers in adopting policies and measures relevant to the teacher working conditions in order to address the issues related to them.

Students were asked which areas on collaborative skills they needed improvement on and the challenges they had experienced in working with others. One hundred forty-seven first year students from the pre-service teachers' program with majors in mathematics and physical sciences were selected as the participants of the study using the purposive sampling method. A questionnaire was used for data collection. This study applied the descriptive research design. Results of the study indicated that students developed some aspects of collaboration but there was an area needing enhancement. The collaboration skills developed among students were being sensitive in taking opinions from others, working in a positive environment, giving positive to one another in order to improve as a group, acknowledging the works of others with compliments' , and understanding other's point of view. The area needing improvement were on communication and interaction skills in order to motivate other members to share their thoughts and ideas.
