In this paper we study a specific variant of the well known Fixed Job Scheduling Problem, namely ... more In this paper we study a specific variant of the well known Fixed Job Scheduling Problem, namely the Tactical Fixed Job Scheduling Problem with Spread-Time constraints. In this problem it is required to schedule a number of jobs on non identical machines that differ each other for the set of jobs they can perform and that have constraints on the length of their duty. We present some lower bounds for the optimal value of the problem and introduce the first heuristic algorithm for solving it. We also study a specific case of interest connected with the assistance of passengers with special needs in large scale airports.

The patient safety is one of the most important element to guarantee a good quality of healthcare... more The patient safety is one of the most important element to guarantee a good quality of healthcare and to satisfy the required standard. As shown in several recent studies, the technological development facilitated the growth and the diffusion of the simulation in healthcare education. In particular, many different serious games have been developed to educate medical professionals and to improve the learning of the medical procedures. In this paper we present the design of an educational game to train the medical students in order to deal with cardiology cases. A multidisciplinary methodology was adopted in order to make the medical knowledge, the biomedical technical skills and the mathematical approach converging. The serious game was designed to support the decision making process, formulated as an integer programming mathematical model that also evaluates the game performance. Moreover, the serious game was developed in a 3D environment and was implemented by Scrum framework.

An often overlooked figure in the history of science, Enrico Amaturo has given his contribution b... more An often overlooked figure in the history of science, Enrico Amaturo has given his contribution both to mathematics, especially to descriptive and projective geometry, and to urban planning. In particular, even if they were not immediately implemented, the regeneration plans he conceived for some ancient quarters of Salerno, his native city, a historical settlement in the south of Italy, proved to be very effective and forward thinking, as the traces of his works and intuitions are still visible in the current lay-out of the city centre. He has been an important figure for the Neapolitan mathematical scene, particularly in the period known as the belle époque, holding prestigious chairs at the local university and becoming the lecturer of courses attended by many scientists of the 20 th century.
