The Vietnamese coffee bean industry has raised concerns lately over an inefficient coffee value chain; bets on coffee price uncertainty are increasing worldwide in the current. Accurate optimization of coffee bean prices helps manufacturers to control an unpredictable market and upgrade cooperativeness in sustainable agriculture. The authors proposed a forecasting method to deal with demand volatility and uncertainty in volumes and coffee bean prices. In this paper, we applied the forecasting nonlinear grey Bernoulli model (NGBM) (1,1). NGBM (1,1), which is based on the parameter optimization algorithm, can increase the precision of predictions. NGBM (1,1) was integrated with Fourier residual modification model to forecast coffee bean price, which was a crucial factor in the Vietnamese coffee bean supply chain. The price of coffee beans was calculated using a differential equation in an uncertain system, along with actual data collected over the past six years. The results of this study demonstrate that an integrated forecasting model is an effective forecasting method. This research can help companies to control risks that come with uncertain coffee prices and reduce risks in the sustainable agriculture supply chain.

Therefore, energy efficiency has been proposed as a solution to improve national economic competitiveness and sustainability. However, the growth in energy demand is accelerating while policy efforts to boost energy efficiency are slowing. To solve this problem, the efficiency gains in countries where energy consumption efficiency is of the greatest concern such as China, India, the United States, and Europe, especially, emerging economies, is central. Additionally, governments must take greater policy actions. Therefore, this paper studied 25 countries from Asia, the Americas, and Europe to develop a method combining the grey method (GM) and data envelopment analysis (DEA) slack-based measure model (SMB) to measure and forecast the energy efficiency, so that detailed energy efficiency evaluation can be made from the past t...

The project may need to be rescheduled to suit the available overdraft limitation rather than to adopt the least total cost schedule. However, past research has seldom conducted a risk analysis on the project cash flow and overdraft requirements for projects with overlapping activities in a fuzzy environment. This research uses fuzzy DSM-based scheduling and proposes an algorithm to calculate the cash flow and overdraft at different risk levels. A numerical example is illustrated to demonstrate the algorithm’s effectiveness.

A design science research methodology is adopted to cover six activities: problem identification and motivation, definition of solution objectives, design and development, demonstration, evaluation, and communication. Based on the DSRM developmental method, HBIS was successfully developed and deployed in the hospital case, and a survey of users shows positive results. In addition, the support and involvement of top management in HBIS development is found to be a critical success factor, and system implementation allowed the hospital to significantly improve performance of managerial indicators for the three abovementioned dimensions. This study contributes a novel developmental methodology from the Information Systems (IS) field as a reference model for future HBIS development, along with the integration of indicators from three major managerial dimensions-NHI, hospital accreditation, and healthcare quality.

A large number of external conditions, such as recession and inflation, affect logistics. Therefore, managers should find ways to improve operational performance, enabling them to increase efficiency while considering environmental sustainability due to the industry’s large scale of energy consumption. Based on data collected from the financial reports of top global logistics companies, this study uses a DEA model to calculate corporate efficiency by implementing a Grey forecasting approach to forecast future sustainability values. Consequently, the study addresses the problem of how to enhance operational performance while accounting for the impact of external conditions. This research can help logistics companies develop operation strategies in the future that will enhance their competitiveness vis-à-vis rivals in a time of global economic volatility.

Measurement of service quality requires criteria that are not only subjective but also intangible. This study proposes a Fuzzy Analytic approach for the measurement of service quality while making use of the fuzzy nature of attitude measurement and taking into consideration the dependency among several criteria. An integration of fuzzy AHP and ANP is utilized to deal with various relationships among evaluation criteria. Service quality for a Taiwanese commercial bank is measured by the proposed method. Appropriate criteria for the bank's service quality are developed based on existing literature and interviews of the bank's managers. Factor analysis shows that the service quality is composed by employee skills, accessibility, and tangibility. The fuzzy approach is then implemented to calculate the weights of criteria based on the relationship among them. The overall service quality can be measured by summing up the weighted score. The proposed approach is found useful to measure service quality in accordance with real world situation.

Most researches study in the situation of single characteristic. However, many products have more than one quality characteristics. This research examined a multi-characteristic screening procedure using multiple screening variables. An extended OMS procedure using a heuristic algorithm is employed to reach the required average outgoing quality (AOQ) or conforming rate. Then two optimal models, namely the individual cut and linear cut approaches, are proposed to determine the optimal cutoff points of screening variables by maximizing the selected rate under a prespecified AOQ or conforming rate. An example of a complete inspection process is presented to illustrate the use of the proposed models

Five vendor evaluation criteria including quality, delivery, net price, geographical location, and production capacity are utilized for the selection of vendors and determination of associated purchasing quantities. A soft time window mechanism is incorporated to allow purchased parts been delivered within a grace period of time with a specifi ed penalty function. A mixed-integer programming model is developed for this vendor selection problem. The proposed model encourages the buyer to select vendors capable of providing quality in-time products which will minimize the total cost of purchasing, quality, transportation, and penalty charge for violating the delivery time window. An illustrative example is given to demonstrate the implementation of the time-window model.

Conventional method uses the diff erential calculus for solving production-shipment problem with the need for proving optimality fi rst on the system cost function. This study proposes a two-phase algebraic solution procedure to derive the optimal lot size as well as optimal number of deliveries without using derivatives. The proposed approach enables practitioners who maybe without suff icient knowledge of calculus to understand such a specifi c real world problem with ease.

Conventional ABC analysis classifies inventory items three categories: A, B, or C based on annual dollar usage of an inventory item. Multi-criteria inventory classification has been proposed by a number of researchers in order to take other important criteria into consideration. These researchers have compared artificial-intelligence (AI)-based classification techniques with traditional multiple discriminant analysis (MDA). Examples of these AI-based techniques include support vector machines (SVMs), backpropagation networks (BPNs), and the k-nearest neighbor (k-NN) algorithm. To test the effectiveness of these techniques, classification results based on four benchmark techniques are compared. The results show that AI-based techniques demonstrate superior accuracy to MDA. Statistical analysis reveals that SVM enables more accurate classification than other AI-based techniques. This finding suggests the possibility of implementing AI-based techniques for multi-criteria ABC analysis in enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

This paper investigates the twin effects of supply chain visibility (SCV) and supply chain risk (... more This paper investigates the twin effects of supply chain visibility (SCV) and supply chain risk (SCR) on supply chain performance. Operationally, SCV has been linked to the capability of sharing timely and accurate information on exogenous demand, quantity and location of inventory, transport related cost, and other logistics activities throughout an entire supply chain. Similarly, SCR can be viewed as the likelihood that an adverse event has occurred during a certain epoch within a supply chain and the associated consequences of that event which affects supply chain performance. Given the multi-faceted attributes of the decision making process which involves many stages, objectives, and stakeholders, it beckons research into this aspect of the supply chain to utilize a fuzzy multi-objective decision making approach to model SCV and SCR from an operational perspective. Hence, our model incorporates the objectives of SCV maximization, SCR minimization, and cost minimization under the constraints of budget, customer demand, production capacity, and supply availability. A numerical example is used to demonstrate the applicability of the model. Our results suggest that decision makers tend to mitigate SCR first then enhance SCV.
