The records in the trade in Quy Nhon and Ho Chi Minh City suggest its range could extend much further south. In addition, given the one way south-north trade route, the absence of Mauremys mutica in the trade south of Hai Van Pass and the reported absence of M. annamensis in the trade north of the Pass support the hypothesis that the Pass is the natural barrier for the two species ranges. This hypothesis combined with the long existence of the Pass might indicate that the speciation between the two species happened when their ancestors dispersed across the Pass, and were subsequently isolated, by the means of rafting or walking through narrow land strip emerged during the low sea level period. In terms of conservation, M. annamensis has become much rarer even in the trade, suggesting immediate conservation measures to protect it.

Patients and Methods:Retrospective descriptive analysis of 136 infertile men with azoospermia, examined from August 2014 to July 2018. Patients underwent stepwise surgical sperm retrieval via percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration, testicular sperm aspiration then multiple testicular sperm extraction in up to 3 locations until sperm were detected. Factorswere analyzed to determine the prediction of sperm retrieval. Results: The overall success rate of sperm retrieval was 49.3% including 88.3% and 18.4% in the OA and NOA group, respectively. The results of sperm retrieval were significantly associated only with the OA and NOA group, not with endocrine test or testicular volume. We found no significant difference in the endocrine test and testicular volume’s result between successful and unsuccessful sperm retrieval in either gr...

Depth-averaged shallow water equations can be used for such a study. However, explicit representation of vegetation can lead to very high resolution of the mesh since the vegetation is often modelled as vertical cylinders. Our work aims to study the ability of a single porosity-based shallow water model for these applications. More attention on flux and source terms discretizations are required in order to archive the well-balancing and shock capturing properties. We present a new Godunov-type finite volume scheme based on a simple-wave approximation and compare it with some other methods in the literature. A first application with experimental data was performed.

Two main approaches were proposed to successfully boost the heating ability; i.e., improving the magnetic concentration of the composite with higher filler content of 30 wt %, and doubling the frequency excitation after optimization of the inductor design. To test the magnetic properties of the ferromagnetic composite, a measurement of permeability as a function of temperature, frequency, and particle content was carried out. Thermal transfer based COMSOL simulations together with experimental tests have been performed, demonstrating feasibility of the proposed approach to significantly enhance the target temperature in a magnetic composite. These results are encouraging and confirmed that IH can be exploited in medical applications,...

Research paper thumbnail of Torasemide versus furosemide in treatment of heart failure: A systematic review and meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials

Torasemide is a loop diuretic with a potential advantage over other diuretics. We aim to meta-analyse and compare the effect of torasemide with furosemide in HF patients. METHODS A comprehensive literature search using 12 databases including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science was performed. All randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing furosemide and torasemide in HF patients were included and meta-analysed. We assessed the risk of bias using Cochrane Collaboration's tool. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42016046112). RESULTS Eighteen RCTs with 1598 patients were included. There was a significant difference between torasemide 20 mg and furosemide 40 mg in increasing the urine volume (standard difference of the mean (SDM) [95% confidence interval] = -0.78 [-1.52 to -0.053], P = .036). Torasemide 10 mg and 10 to 20 mg have a significant effect on potassium excretion in comparison with furosemide 25 to 40 mg (P = .018 and .023, respectively). In general, torasemide and furosemide have no significant difference in mortality, edema improvement, weight loss, heart rate, and reducing systolic/diastolic blood pressure. However, oral torasemide has a significant lower hospital stay P < .001 and superior effect in improving ejection fraction P = .029. CONCLUSION Although not all results are statistically significant, torasemide has potential advantages on multiple aspects of HF management when compared with furosemide. More studies are needed to clarify these effects.

However, management policies based on ecological research alone cannot address complex socioeconomic or cultural contexts as drivers of wildlife trade. Multidisciplinary research is required to understand trade complexity and identify sustainable management strategies. Here, we define multidisciplinary research as research that combines more than one academic discipline, and highlight how the articles in this issue combine methods and approaches to fill key gaps and offer a more comprehensive understanding of underlying drivers of wildlife trade including consumer demand, enforcement patterns, source population status, and accessibility of targeted species. These articles also focus on how these drivers interact at different scales, how trade patterns relate to ethics, and the potential effectiveness o...

For the first time, we explore the mechanical properties of five types of boron films with various vacancy ratios ranging from 0.1-0.15, using molecular dynamics simulations with ReaxFF force field. It is found that the Young's modulus and tensile strength decrease with increasing the temperature. We found that boron sheets exhibit an anisotropic mechanical response due to the different arrangement of atoms along the armchair and zigzag directions. At room temperature, 2D Young's modulus and fracture stress of these five sheets appear in the range 63-136 N m(-1) and 12-19 N m(-1), respectively. In addition, the strains at tensile strength are in the ranges of 9%-14%, 11%-19%, and 10%-16% at 1, 300, and 600 K, respectively. This investigation not only reveals the remarkable stiffness of 2D boron, but establishes relations between the mechanical...

It has been demonstrated that catapol derivative iridoid glucosides including 6-O, possess anti-inflammatory activity in carragenan-induced paw edema mouse model as well as bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of ovalbumin-induced mouse model. In the present study, we investigated whether 6-O modulates inflammatory responses in THP-1 monocytic cells stimulated with phorbol12-myristate-13-acetate (PMA). Our data showed that 6-O inhibited PMA induced interleukin (IL)-1β and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α expression in THP-1 monocytic cells. Mechanistic studies revealed that 6-O suppressed the activity of protein kinase C (PKC), which further resulted in downstream inactivation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) inflammatory pathway. The results implied that 6-O may protect against inflammatory respons...

L. reuteri strains produced reuteran or levan, exopolysaccharides that inhibit ETEC adhesion to the mucosa, and feed fermentation was conducted to support exopolysaccharide formation, or not. Diets were chosen to assess the impact of organic acids, and the impact of viable L. reuteri. Fecal samples were taken throughout three weeks of feeding; at the end of the 21 d feeding period, animals were euthanized to sample gut digesta. The feed intake was reduced in pigs fed diets containing exopolysaccharides; however, feed efficiency did not differ among diets. Quantification of L. reuteri by qPCR detected the two strains used for feed fermentation throughout the intestinal tract. Quantification of E. coli and ETEC virulence factors by qPCR demonstrated that fermented diets containing reuteran significantly (0....
