Layered double hydroxides (LDHs), also called anionic clays, consist of cationic brucite-like lay... more Layered double hydroxides (LDHs), also called anionic clays, consist of cationic brucite-like layers and exchangeable interlayer anions. These hydrotalcite-like compounds, with Zn and Al in the layers and chloride in the interlayer space, were prepared following the coprecipitation method at constant pH. The affinity of this material for Remazol Blue 19, RB19 [2-(3-(4-Amino-9,10dihydro-3-sulpho-9,10-dioxoanthracen-4-yl) aminobenzenesulphonyl) vinyl) disodiumsulphate], was studied as a function of contact time, pH of the solutions LDH dose and the RB19/[Zn-Al-Cl] mass ratio. It was found that 48 h is enough time for the equilibrium state to be reached with maximum RB19 retention at pH of 9 for an LDH dose equal to 100 mg and with an RB19/[Zn-Al-Cl] mass ratio higher than 3. The adsorption isotherm, described by the Langmuir model, is of L-type. The results demonstrate that RB19 retention on LDHs occurs by adsorption on external surface when RB19/[Zn-Al-Cl] mass ratio is equal or \3 and by both adsorption and interlayer ion exchange for ratios higher than 3. A mechanism for removal of RB19 anion has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy and TG analysis (TG and DTG curves).

The intercalation of fluorophosphate (PO 3 F 2− , FP) in the [Zn-Al] layered double hydroxides (L... more The intercalation of fluorophosphate (PO 3 F 2− , FP) in the [Zn-Al] layered double hydroxides (LDHs) was investigated. A nitrate precursor was prepared by coprecipitaion at pH 9. An attempt to intercalate FP by direct coprecipitation reaction led to a poorly crystalline LDH phase. The effects of pH, aging time and anion concentration were studied and allowed to confirm that the best crystalline material, with high exchange extent, was obtained by carrying out the exchange at 25 • C in 0•1 M FP solution at pH 9 with at least 20 h of aging time.

The title compound, C25H34N2O5, was synthesized from 9α-hydroxyparthenolide (9α-hydroxy-4,8-dimet... more The title compound, C25H34N2O5, was synthesized from 9α-hydroxyparthenolide (9α-hydroxy-4,8-dimethyl-12-methylen-3, 14-dioxa-tricyclo[9.3.0.02,4]tetradec-7-en-13-one), which in turn was isolated from the chloroform extract of the aerial parts ofAnvillea radiata. The molecule comprises a ten-membered ring fused to a five-membered ring with an additional epoxy ring system fused to the ten-membered ring. The five-membered ring also carries a 4-hydroxyphenyl-piperazin-1-ylmethyl substituent. The ten-membered ring adopts an approximate chair–chair conformation, while the piperazine ring displays a chair conformation and the five-membered ring shows an envelope conformation with the C atom closest to the hydroxy group forming the flap. Two C atoms in the phenyl ring and the O atom of the hydroxyl group are disordered over two sites, with an occupancy ratio of 0.53 (5):0.47 (5). The molecule is built up from fused six- and seven-membered rings and two three-membered rings from the reaction of β-himachalene with dichlorocarbene. The six-membered ring shows a chair conformation, whereas the seven-membered ring displays a boat conformation.

The molecule is built up from fused six-and seven-membered rings and an additional three-membered ring from the reaction of himachalene with dibromocarbene. The six-membered ring has an envelope conformation, with the C atom belonging to the three-membered ring forming the flap, whereas the sevenmembered ring displays a screw-boat conformation; the dihedral angle between the rings (all atoms) is 60.92 (16) .

The molecule is built up from fused six- and seven-membered rings and two three-membered rings from the reaction of β-himachalene with dichlorocarbene. The six-membered ring shows a chair conformation, whereas the seven-membered ring displays a boat conformation.

The molecule is built up from fused six-and seven-membered rings and an additional three-membered ring from the reaction of himachalene with dibromocarbene. The six-membered ring has an envelope conformation, with the C atom belonging to the three-membered ring forming the flap, whereas the sevenmembered ring displays a screw-boat conformation; the dihedral angle between the rings (all atoms) is 60.92 (16) .

The title compound, C25H33ClN2O5, was synthesized from 9α-hydroxyparthenolide (9α-hydroxy-4,8-dim... more The title compound, C25H33ClN2O5, was synthesized from 9α-hydroxyparthenolide (9α-hydroxy-4,8-dimethyl-12-methylene-3,14-dioxatricyclo[9.3.0.02,4]tetradec-7-en-13-one), which was isolated from the chloroform extract of the aerial parts ofAnvillea radiata. The molecule is built up from fused five- and ten-membered rings with two additional epoxy ring systems and a chlorophenylpiperazine group as a substituent. The ten-membered ring adopts an approximate chair–chair conformation, while the piperazine ring displays a chair conformation and the five-membered ring shows an envelope conformation with the C atom closest to the hydroxy group forming the flap. The molecular conformation is stabilized by an intramolecular O—H...N hydrogen bond between the hydroxy group and a piperazine N atom. The crystal structure is stabilized by weak C—H...O interactions.
