D... more The human brain is constantly solving enormous and challenging optimization problems in vision. Due to the formidable meta-heuristics engine our brain equipped with, in addition to the widespread associative inputs from all other senses that act as the perfect initial guesses for a heuristic algorithm, the produced solutions are guaranteed to be optimal. By the same token, we address the problem of computing the depth and normal maps of a given scene under a natural but unknown illumination utilizing particle swarm optimization (PSO) to maximize a sophisticated photo-consistency function. For each output pixel, the swarm is initialized with good guesses starting with SIFT features as well as the optimal solution (depth, normal) found previously during the optimization. This leads to significantly better accuracy and robustness to textureless or quite specular surfaces.

Realistic looking is often critical, and calculating global illumination (GI) is an important contributor to image reliability; in which we take into account all interreflection effects in the scene. GI approximation methods, such as virtual point light (VPL) algorithms, are efficient, but they can produce image artifacts and distortions of object appearance. In this paper we present a practical algorithm for rendering diverse frequency of interreflection effects. Our method builds upon a standard representation of the scene, based on which a new mathematical formulation of the interreflection equation is made. We systematically study simulation of complex effects on image quality and material appearance of global illumination approximations made by VPL algorithms to provide a fast and smoother complex illumination. Efficiently, the computational effort is heavily reduced.

Our approach uses a semiskeletonization technique for following lines and calculation of the characteristics of characters. With the application of an SVM classifier in the classification phase, we were able to achieve very interesting recognition rates in reduced time. When compared to similar works, this work is very interesting for the Off-line recognition of Arabic handwriting.

Unlike the methods 1vs1 and 1vsR, used in the literature and mainly based on binary SVM method, our method learns a classifier for each class from only its samples and then uses these classifiers to obtain a multiclass decision model. To enhance the accuracy of our method, we build from the obtained hyperplanes new hyperplanes, similar to those of the 1vsR method, for use in classification. Our method represents a considerable improvement in the speed of training and classification as well the decision model size while maintaining the same accuracy as other methods.

The model suggested allows primarily made realistic of repetitive complex scenes lower cost of calculation due to the effective exploitation of the capacities of the graphics boards and to the fact that it takes account of the level of detail according to the distance of the observer and the vision angle, in the representation of the reference element.

Our aim in this study was to describe the different etiologies of a large group of children with gigantism and the natural history of their growth. Methods: In this multicenter study, we considered as giant children, adolescents and adults whose heights were ≥3 SD compared to their target stature or to our population average lengths. Isolated hypogonadism and Klinefelter syndrome were excluded from this series. All underwent clinical exam, and hormonal and neurological investigations. Results: From 1980 to 2010, we observed 30 giants: 26 males (86.6%) and 4 females (mean age 19.8 ± 11 years). Among the 13 patients (40.3%) who consulted before the age of 16 years, 9 had acromegaly and 6 had mental retardation and body malformations. Based on growth hormone (GH) secretion evaluation, 2 groups were observed: pituitary gigantism (n = 16): GH = 150 ± 252 ng/ml (n ≤ 5), and other causes with normal GH (0....
