It extracts 5.8 million liters of water per day for drinking supply from its rivers at several intake points. The water quality of rivers in Cameron Highlands, however, has deteriorated significantly due to land clearing for agriculture, excessive usage of pesticides and fertilizers as well as construction activities in rapidly developing urban areas. On the other hand, these pollution sources known as non-point pollution sources are diverse and hard to identify and therefore they are difficult to estimate. Hence, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) was used to provide an extensive approach to evaluate landuse and other mapping characteristics to explain the spatial distribution of non-point sources of contamination in Cameron Highlands. New organic single crystals of 2-amino-5-chloropyridinium-2,4-dinitrophenolate were successfully ... more New organic single crystals of 2-amino-5-chloropyridinium-2,4-dinitrophenolate were successfully grown by the slow evaporation method at room temperature from methanol solution. Crystal structure and crystalline phases were confirmed from the single crystal XRD and powder XRD, respectively. 1H NMR and 13C NMR studies were conducted for the crystal. The functional groups have been confirmed using the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis. UV-visible studies show the absence of absorption in the visible region. To determine the thermal stability of the grown crystals it was subjected to thermo gravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis. Dielectric studies were taken in the frequency range from 50 Hz to 5 MHz for various temperatures. Photo conductivity and photoluminescence studies were also carried out for the title crystal. Generally human security is defined as freedom from fear, and freedom from want. Under this human security is divided into seven categories of safety, economy, food, health, environmental, personal, community and political. These reports are available through the importance of food security as it is placed under the UN human security. Break the traditional concept of human security in which it does not see the country in terms of security simply preferred the military aspect but it is more focused on the aspects of human security itself. This aspect of human security if not given serious concentration it could threaten national security and thus the stability of the region and globally. Thus, the concept of human security and well-being of human happiness is to be the main topic in the discussion of which in the end he is not talking about the country as a whole individual. Furthermore this human security concept will be a new paradigm in human development.

All reservoirs are carbonates (dolomites and limestones) and thus acid stimulation is required post well completion in order to increase the well production/injection rate. During the planning stage, an extensive acid recipe study was carried out to formulate stimulation treatments to meet the challenging complexities of the reservoirs, high downhole temperatures and long corrosion protection time. Several lab tests were carried out to formulate all the acid recipes. While in quest of new technology, an additive called ‘Complex Nano Fluid’ was introduced in the acid recipes based on proven case histories from around the world. This was also confirmed with the lab tests using ADMA reservoir crude and core samples. The crystal structure was confirmed by single crystal XRD. Crystalline nature and functional groups present in the crystals were verified by powder XRD and FT-IR analysis. Optical transmission study shows that the crystal is transparent in the entire visible region. Dielectric studies were carried out with respect to temperature and frequency. Grown crystals reveal negative photoconductivity nature. Thermal stability of the compound was analysed by TG/DSC studies. DC conductivity studies were also carried out at different temperatures. Powder second harmonic generation studies were carried out using Q-switched Nd:YAG laser.

In this study, the overall goal was to monitor the treatment efficiency by a lab scale process in order to determine the degradation process in a batch biological treatment system. Three different configuration of sequencing batch reactor were used to treat petroleum refinery wastewater (PRWW). Aerobic SBR for raw PRWW, two-stage anaerobic-aerobic SBR for raw PRWW, and aerobic for mixed raw PRWW and domestic wastewater. The expansion of the urban population within Bertam river catchment in Cameron Highlands increase... more The expansion of the urban population within Bertam river catchment in Cameron Highlands increased the input of organic matter to the river system. It originates from sewage and fertilizers, through point sources and non-point sources of pollution. This organic pollution causes very severe bio-contamination with bacteria and viruses, which can cause some serious diseases. On the other hand, it is apparent that an assessment of water quality cannot focus on chemical indicators alone, but must instead focus on indicators that integrate the effects of physical, chemical and biological contaminations. Therefore, in this research the pH, EC, TDS, COD, Total Nitrogen, Total Phosphor and E.coli at four points (SP1 to SP4) of Bertam river and five points (SP5 to SP9) of its tributaries were measured during average and high water flow to determine and specify the level of pollution in the river. Results show water quality of the Bertam river deteriorates and continues just after its origin at SP1 as huge increase of total solids up to 4000 mg/L was observed during high water flow at SP2 while it was around 5 mg/L at SP1 in same period. Also the high concentrations of Total Nitrogen and Phosphorus was observed at SP2 (17 mg/L N and 14 mg/L P) and SP5 (9.7 mg/L N and 8.7 mg/L P) during high water flow. Finally, the presence of E.coli of more than 200 MPN/100ml was found at SP2, SP3 and SP7.
