Research paper thumbnail of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination modelling for safe surgery to save lives: data from an international prospective cohort study

Vaccine numbers are limited so this study aimed to inform their prioritization by modelling. Methods The primary outcome was the number needed to vaccinate (NNV) to prevent one COVID-19-related death in 1 year. NNVs were based on postoperative SARS-CoV-2 rates and mortality in an international cohort study (surgical patients), and community SARS-CoV-2 incidence and case fatality data (general population). NNV estimates were stratified by age (18–49, 50–69, 70 or more years) and type of surgery. Best- and worst-case scenarios were used to describe uncertainty. Results NNVs were more favourable in surgical patients than the general population. The most favourable NNVs were in patients aged 70 years or more needing cancer surgery (351; best case 196, worst case 816) or non-cancer surgery (733; best case 407, worst case 1664). Both exceeded the NNV in the general population (1840; best case 1196, worst ...

It's the standard strategy in the two-stent procedure. Its benefit in one-stent approach remains uncertain. Several trials comparing KBI strategy with the No-KBI strategy in one-stent technique did not show any advantages in the clinical outcome. Clinical outcome and the follow up of ischemic symptoms is a useful method to compare the effectiveness of both strategies. Aims: To study the short-term clinical outcome (3and 6 months) of provisional versus routine kissing‑balloon technique after main vessel stenting for coronary bifurcation lesions. Patients and Methods: The study included sixty consecutive patients. They were randomized to receive different side branch (SB) intervention strategies: group I (provisional final kissing balloon inflation group - PFKBI) (FKBI only when SB Flow less than TIMI 3) and group II (routine final kissing balloon inf...

Research paper thumbnail of Efficacy of electromyography and nerve conduction velocity monitoring in surgical management of terminal lipoma in children

Objective: to assess the outcome of excision of terminal lipomyelomeningocele and reconstruction of the neural tube. Methods: From 2002 to 2016, 32 cases of terminal lipomyelomeningocele in Mansoura university hospital, insurance hospital and El Ahrar specialized center, the age of the cases ranged between 10 days and 4,3 years underwent surgical management of total or near-total lipoma excision and neural tube reformation with minimum follow up of 6 months. Results: according to system which applied to show the success of the operations, Of the 32 patients, 9 cases represent (28.1%) showed total excision of the lipoma; 17 patients represent (53.1%) had 25 mm3 of lipoma or less and 6 patients represent (18.75%) had 26 mm3 of fat or more. The neuro...

Research paper thumbnail of Spinal Deviations in relation to Arm Functions in Obstetrical Brachial Plexus Injuries

Life Science Journal, Dec 28, 2014

Thirty Erb's palsied children participated in this study. All children ranged in age from three to six years. Formetric (rastersterography) instrument was used for assessing the back geometry. Data of Erb's palsied children was correlated to arm function according to modified Mallet system with p-value at 0.05. The results of this study showed negative correlation between the measured parameters including trunk imbalance, lateral deviation (rms), lateral deviation (max), surface rotation (rms) and surface rotation (max). From the obtained results, it can be concluded that, there is negative correlation between back geometrical parameters and arm function according to modified Mallet system in obstetrical brachial plexus palsied children.
