The problem of “Retention and Relapse” was born with the science of Orthodontia and continues to persistently plague Orthodontic researchers and clinicians. Retention and Relapse are considered to be one of the most important aspects of Orthodontic treatment as far as treatment results and stability are considered from the patient's and from the operator’s point of view. It has been considered as the stepchild of Orthodontic treatment. Even today debate still continues regarding post-treatment stability and the role-played by the retainers in providing this stability. This book gives an insight into the importance of retention and protocol for retention after the Orthodontic treatment.

Research paper thumbnail of Randomized controlled trial to compare oral analgesic requirements and patient satisfaction in using oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs versus benzydamine hydrochloride oral rinses after mandibular third molar extraction: a pilot study

We assessed the analgesic effect of benzydamine hydrochloride, a topical analgesic oral rinse, for controlling postoperative pain following third molar extraction. A randomized controlled trial was conducted in 40 patients divided into two groups, for extraction of fully erupted third molar. Groups A received benzydamine hydrochloride mouthwash and group B received normal saline gargle with oral ibuprofen and paracetamol. Oral ibuprofen and paracetamol was the rescue analgesic drug in group A. Patients were evaluated on the 3 and 7 post-operative days (POD) for pain using the visual analogue score (VAS), trismus, total number of analgesics consumed, and satisfaction level of patients. The VAS in groups A and B on POD3 and POD7 was 4.55 ± 2.54 and 3.95 ± 1.8, and 1.2 ± 1.64 and 0.95 ± 1.14, respectively and was statistically insignificant. The number of ...

Recurrent bilateral ankylosis is further complicated by the fusion of the styloid process and the mandible. We report such a case, and to our knowledge no similar case has been reported previously.
