Iranian traditional healers have applied different medicinal plants to prevent and treat COVID-19 based on their ethnopharmacological knowledge. This research aimed to investigate the ethnomedicinal knowledge of Iranian traditional healers to alleviate COVID-19 signs and symptoms. Materials & Methods: Due to the limitations caused by COVID-19 pandemic, oral interviews were conducted by 26 traditional healers in Kerman and Zahedan cities in Iran. The names of recommended remedies for COVID-19 were collected, and their scientific names were authenticated. Next, a comprehensive research was carried out in the scientific databases. Finally, the herbs with any related proved properties to the respiratory system were listed; these herbs were probably useful for the COVID-19 prevention or treatment. Results: Zataria multiflora, Althaea officinalis, Hordeum vulgare, Malva sylvestris, Matricaria chamomilla, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Allium sativum and Zingiber officinale are considered as the most popular herbs by Iranian traditional healers for prevention and/or treatment of COVID-19. Recent studies have demonstrated that the abovementioned herbs can be considered as good sources for alleviating the respiratory disorders such as influenza. Moreover, they have antitussive and immune-modulatory properties. Conclusion: Since there is no effective treatment for COVID-19, the capacity of different traditional medicine and ethnomedicine knowledge can be used as good sources for new drug discovery after accurate studies.

Having expert teams with an acceptable consensus in clinical diagnosis is one of the basic requirements to design and standardize Mizaj diagnostic scales. In this cross-sectional study, three PM specialists assessed the Mizaj of 150 healthy volunteers. At the first step of this study, each participant was separately visited by raters to determine warmness-coldness and wetness-dryness. To assess the agreement between experts, Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC), weighted kappa (wk) and Spearman correlation Coefficient (r) were calculated. At the second step in an expert panel discussion, agreed criteria in 10 criteria of Mizaj identification were extracted. ICC between expert was 0.62 (CI: 0.53-0.73) in warmness-coldness and 0.64 (CI: 0.56-0.72) in wetness-dryness. Wk and r between every two experts were in th...

To present proper health care directives for each individual, it is necessary to identify his general Mizaj or the Mizaj of important organs of body such as brain, liver and heart. The purpose of this study is to survey and summarize the views of PM references regarding diagnostic signs of Mizaj-eDamagh (temperament of brain). METHODS: In this review article, we searched online databases such as SienceDirect, PubMed, Scopus, Magiran as well as PM references for some key words such as “brain”, “termperament”, “Mizaj” and their Persian equivalent. Articles related to Mizaj-e-Damagh were surveyed and summarize...

Achieving standard methods for determining the temperament (Mizaj) is one of the main priorities of research in traditional Persian medicine. The fuzzy decision tree is one of the intelligent algorithms for data classification. The conclusion tree is the process of using specific examples and reaching a general model whose purpose is to learn how to classify the samples. Methods and Materials: In this paper, the data related to temperament (Mizaj) was used for data mining and modeling of the temperament (Mizaj) diagnosis. To this end, the fuzzy decision tree was trained with fuzzy ID3 algorithm. Results: Two trees were made for warmness/coldness and wetness/dryness. The produc...

Materials and Methods: Forty-four patients of 15 to 70 years old, with CKD due to hypertension or diabetes, and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of 15–60 ml/min per 1.73 m2, were enrolled in this trial. The patients were randomized to receive either 400 cc of camel milk with 10 cc of Tarangabin syrup orally in two divided daily doses for 3 months plus conventional therapy or conventional therapy alone. The conventional treatment included diabetes medications and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers. Results: The baseline characteristics of patients were similar in the two groups. Serum levels of creatinine (p=0.01), blood levels of urea nitrogen (p=0.0001), triglyceride (p=0.02), and potassium (p=0.05), and diastolic...

It is widely used in various clinical subjects. In this paper, the specific meaning of Xuan-ShangTiaoZhong Therapy is clearly stated through the theory, and the mechanism of the promotion of XuanShangTiaoZhong Therapy is discussed from the aspects of syndrome differentiation of the SanJiao, the transmission of disease and evil, the correlation of the viscera and the causes of the disease. Combined with the analysis of medical records, the application of XuanShangTiaoZhong Therapy in febrile diseases, pulmonary diseases and paediatric diseases was summarized, and the ideas and methods of the treatment in clinical application were-2-clarified in detail. It has an active and important role in all kinds of early-middle period febrile diseases and related diseases, and it can effectively guide the clinical treatment. It has important practical significance and clinical value for the further study and discussion of the promotion of XuanShang-TiaoZhong Therapy.
