Natural convection cooling of an electronic component in an electronic device using water-based F... more Natural convection cooling of an electronic component in an electronic device using water-based Fe3O4 magnetic nanofluids is studied under the presence of the magnetic field. The heated vertical electronic component in an enclosure type electronic device with a magnetic field source is used as a model for the study. Different samples of Fe3O4-water nanofluid are prepared using different surfactants and the stability of those samples are estimated using visualization and zeta potential technique. Thermal properties of the stable sample of magnetic nanofluid are precisely measured. The experimentally measured properties are used for further theoretical study. The natural convection is characterized in terms of the relative position of the magnetic source and the electronic component, the strength of the magnetic field, and the magnetization of the nanofluids. Nine different combinations of the position of the magnetic source and the electronic component have been compared with the cas...

To generate jump tables that can be efficiently predicted by current hardware branch predictors, we added an upper bound on the number of entries for each table. This modification of the previously best known algorithm reduces the complexity from O(n^2) to O(nlogn).

The spectrum of disease differs between men and women, with women being particularly vulnerable to certain conditions, especially during specific periods of life such as pregnancy. There are several unique risk factors for cerebrovascular disease in women, and the influence of some traditional risk factors for stroke is stronger in women. Moreover, disparities persist in representation of women in clinical trials, acute intervention, and stroke outcomes. In this review, we aimed to explore the epidemiology, etiologies, and management of cerebrovascular disease in women, highlighting some of these differences and the growing need for sex-specific management guidelines and health policies.

Protein-minimization is an attractive approach for designing vaccines against rapidly evolving pa... more Protein-minimization is an attractive approach for designing vaccines against rapidly evolving pathogens such as HIV-1 since it can help in focussing the immune response towards conserved conformational epitopes present on complex targets. The outer domain (OD) of HIV-1 gp120 contains epitopes for a large number of neutralizing antibodies and therefore is a primary target for structure-based vaccine design. We have previously designed a bacterially expressed outer domain immunogen (OD) that bound CD4 binding site (CD4bs) ligands with 3-12µM affinity and elicited a modest neutralizing antibody response in rabbits. In this study, we have optimized OD using consensus sequence design, cyclic permutation and structure-guided mutations to generate a number of variants with improved yields, biophysical properties, stabilities and affinities (KD of 10-50 nM) for various CD4bs targeting, broadly neutralizing antibodies, including the germline reverted version of the broadly neutralizing anti...

Non-compartmental DTIC, MTIC, HMMTIC, and AIC pharmacokinetics (PK) were estimated in one case at 29 week gestation and 18 day postpartum and a second case at 32 week gestation, in women receiving DTIC in combination with doxorubicin, bleomycin, and vinblastine for treatment of Hodgkin's lymphoma. Drug concentrations were measured by HPLC. In the subject who completed both pregnancy and postpartum study days, DTIC area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) was 27% higher and metabolite AUCs were lower by 27% for HMMTIC, 38% for MTIC, and 83% of AIC during pregnancy compared to postpartum. At 7 and 9 year follow-up, both subjects we...

Glycans partially shield Env from recognition by the host immune system and also are believed to be indispensable for proper folding of gp120 and for viral infectivity. Previous attempts to alter glycosylation sites in Env typically involved mutating the glycosylated asparagine residues to structurally similar glutamines or to alanines. Here, we confirmed that such mutations at multiple glycosylation sites greatly diminish viral infectivity and result in significantly reduced binding to both neutralizing and non-neutralizing antibodies. Therefore, using an alternative approach, we combined evolutionary information with structure-guided design and yeast surface display to produce properly cleaved HIV-1 Env variants that lack all 15 core gp120 glycans, yet retai...
Development of the self-cleaning and anti-fogging superhydrophobic coating for aluminum surfaces ... more Development of the self-cleaning and anti-fogging superhydrophobic coating for aluminum surfaces which is durable in the aggressive conditions has raised tremendous interest in materials science. In this work, by employing chemical etching technique with mixture of hydrochloric and nitric acid, followed by passivation with lauric acid, superhydrophobic aluminum surface was synthesized. The surface morphology analysis reveals the presence of rough microstructures on coated aluminium surface. Superhydrophobicity with water contact angle of 170 ± 3.9° and sliding angle of 4 ± 0.5° is achieved. Surface bounces off the high speed water jet, indicating excellent water-repellent nature of coating. It is also continuously floated on water surface for several weeks, showing excellent buoyancy nature. Additionally, coating maintains its superhydrophobicity after undergoing 100 cycles of adhesive tape peeling test. Its superhydrophobic nature withstands 90° and 180&de...

Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) have strong analgesic effects, as shown in both animal models of pain and in human beings. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel format study to investigate the efficacy of abobotulinum toxin A (aboA) in chronic low back pain was conducted. The study cohort consisted of 18 patients who received 100 units of aboA into each of the five lumbar extensor spinae muscles unilaterally or bilaterally (total dose 500 to 1000 units), and 19 who received normal saline of the same volume. The level of pain and quality of life were assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS) and three questionnaires including the Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire (OLBPDQ). Patients' perception of improvement was recorded via patient global impression of change (PGIC). The primary outcome measure, the proportion of responders with VAS of <4 at...
