This family has around 130 genera and 800 species. Researchers have studied the various plants of this family including Lagenaria siceraria due to their medicinal potential. Various properties are beneficial for human health, that have been attributed to L. siceraria like antioxidant, hypolipidemic, diuretic, laxative, hepatoprotective, analgesic, antihypertensive, cardioprotective, central nervous system stimulant, anthelmintic, free radical scavenging, immunosuppressive, and adaptogenic. The fruit of this plant is commonly used as a vegetable that has a low-calorie value. The species possess a diverse set of biological compounds like flavonoids, sterols, saponins, and terpenoids. Vitamins, choline, flavonoids, minerals, proteins, terpenoids, and other phytochemicals are also found in the edible parts of this plant. Besides 17 different amino acids, many minerals are reported to be pres...

Its etiology varies with geographical location, genetic predisposition, age and gender. Objective: To determine the most common etiologies of pancytopenia in a hospital of Lahore. Methods: It was a cross sectional study conducted at Shalamar hospital after taking approval from the Institutional Review Board of Shalamar Medical and Dental College, Lahore. A purposive sample of one hundred admitted patients fulfilling the inclusion criteria for pancytopenia was taken. History was taken and detailed physical examination was done after taking informed consent. Peripheral smear examination, reticulocyte count, Liver function tests (LFTs), Renal function tests (RFTs), vitamin B12 and folic acid levels and viral serology were carried out along with additional investigations as indicated. For statistical analysis SPSS version 20 was used. Results: A total ...

These gardens have definite styles of landscape which represent the highest ambitions of Mughal rulers about landscape gardening (Brand, 1990; Petruccioli, 1997). Overtime several changes occurred in the landscape of these gardens due to many reasons which include time factor, negligence in maintenance, invasion of foreign armies in particular the Sikh rule in Punjab, weakness of Mughal Empire after the death of Aurangzeb and the lack of consistent policies for conservation and restoration of these gardens under the present setup (Lal, 1882; Fauq, 1927; Khan, 2004). Efforts have been made by the respective department(s) to restore the gardens according to their original shape and to provide possible facilities to the visitors to attract their number because tourism has close ties with the heritage sites. Basic information about the difficulties of visitors and their demands is usua...

Methods: A cross-sectional study with convenient sampling technique was carried out at Shalamar Medical and Dental College. Children from public and private schools of Lahore, were included in the study. Assent was taken from the participants after the consent was granted from their parents. Data was recorded on a questionnaire. Body weight and height were recorded and Body Mass Index (BMI) calculated. Children were classified as underweight and normal weight according to BMI. Student “t” test, “One way ANOVA” and “Chi-square” tests were applied to analyze the data through SPSS version 21. Results: The mean age of the participants was 12 years, 17% of school children were found to be underweight. Among underweight children, 74% belonged to middle and 20% to low socioeconomic class, and 50% had illiterate parents. There was significantly greater prevalenc...

Moreover, it also modulates glucose metabolism. Studies have suggested that levels of ghrelin fluctuates in different physiological conditions like obesity and diabetes mellitus. Objective: The objective of the study was to compare the ghrelin levels in these three groups and to investigate whether there is any association of ghrelin with type 2 diabetes and obesity. Material and Method; A total number of 90 subjects were enrolled in the study after considering inclusion and exclusion criteria ,among them 30 subjects were suffering from Type2DM, 30 were obese with BMI >30 and 30 were normal without Type2DM and Obesity. A comprehensive questionnaire was used to collect the data from 90 volunteers. Body height, weight, waist and hip circumference were measured according to procedure described by WHO and BMI was calculated. Glucose and ghrelin levels ...

The purpose of this study is to conduct a cross-country comparison among three Asian developing countries (Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India) and two developed economies (UK and USA) to evaluate the effectiveness of their MFIs in serving low-income people. The microfinance data for six years from 2006 to 2011 are collected from authentic sources. The findings of the study reveal that Bangladesh and India are comparatively ahead of other nations in serving poor people by providing them microcredits.

A solution to this problem is entrepreneurial leadership which is vital to attain and uphold competitive advantage in the competitive markets. Hence, this research study was aimed at finding the perception and the importance of entrepreneurial leadership for the UK retail sector particularly the small and medium sized retailers. The small and medium sized retailers registered in the Chamber and Commerce Industry in UK were selected for survey intention. The link to a web-designed questionnaire was sent to business managers and CEOs of these retailers. The responses of survey participants showed a positive perception and the importance of the role of entrepreneurial leadership. However, the UK retail sector needs to work on improving the perception of chaos in order to avoid the high failure rate of small and medium retailers.

The four different types of retail stores i.e. Tesco, Primark, Ikea and WH Smith were selected for survey purpose to minimise the class biasness.Total 300 close-ended questionnaires were distributed and 220 responses were obtained. The findings reveal that ‘Neuroticism’ is negatively associated with job satisfaction as well as with ‘Extraversion’. However, it is positively correlated with other three personality groups including ‘Agreeableness’, ‘Conscientious’, and ‘Openness’. On the other hand, ‘Openness to experience’ has a negative relationship with ‘Agreeableness’.It is also found from the ranking analysis that employees with ‘Agreeableness’ and ‘Conscientiousness’ personalities are more successful in their career a...

This paper aims to contribute to the discussion on how Loan-to-Deposit (LTD) ratio can be used to investigate and avert liquidity problem in the banking sector. For this purpose, the data of Major British Banking Groups (MBBG) are collected and critically analysed. The findings of the study reveal that the banks which sustain the LTD ratio were able to successfully pass through the liquidity crisis of 2008, and other banks which rely more on borrowed funds or banks with increasing LTD ratio, became the victim of financial crisis.

This review paper highlights the microfinance activities performed by the MFIs and also indicates the critical factors that hinder the growth of microfinance in developing and developed nations. It is found that the foremost factors obstructing the adoption of microfinance are: lack of financial stability, uncontrolled growth, cultural and value impede, systematic frauds, bureaucratic obstacles, state intervention, methodological defects, and shortage of credit rating agencies.

Many researchers explore the factors of dividend policy. The aim of the study is to find out the factors that motivate the dividend policy among the cement industry. For the purpose data of eight firms was collected from Karachi Stock exchange and State bank of Pakistan. SPSS 17 was used to analyze the data and it was found that PE ratio, EPS growth and sale growth are positively associated with the dividend payout while profitability and debt to equity were found to have negative association with dividend payout.

A Magnus subgroup is the fundamental group of a suitable incompressible sub-surface. A number of results are proved about the intersections of such subgroups and their conjugates, analogous to results of Bagherzadeh, Brodskiȋ and Collins in classical one-relator group theory.

For this purpose, 73 UK commercial banks are selected on the basis of availability of required information. The empirical data for these banks are collected for the period from 2006 to 2012 from Bankscope and Data-stream databases. The regression and correlation analyses are performed on the data and concluded that bank size, capital ratio, loan, deposits, liquidity, and interest rate have positive impact on ROA and ROE while GDP and inflation rate have negative impact. The findings of this study can help UK banks, government, investors, policymakers, and shareholders for decision making and improving the performance of financial institutions in the future.
