Emotional aspects of working in an infectious pandemic situation is often neglected in favour of the more obvious physical ramifications. This single point assessment study aimed to explore the factors related to stress, anxiety and depression among HCWs consequent to working in a pandemic. Material and methods: This was a cross-sectional study involving healthcare workers who were working in COVID-19 inpatient ward, COVID-19 screening area, suspect ward, suspect intensive care unit (ICU) and COVID-19 ICU across four hospitals in India. A web-based survey questionnaire was designed to elicit responses to daily challenges faced by HCWs. The questionnaire was regressed using machine-learning algorithm (Cat Boost) against the standardized Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 (DASS 21) which was used to quantify emotional distress experienced by them. Results: A total of 156 participants were included in this study. As per DASS-21 scoring, severe stress was seen in ∼17% of respondents. We could achieve an R 2 of 0.28 using our machinelearning model. The major factors responsible for stress were decreased time available for personal needs, increasing age, being posted out of core area of expertise, setting of COVID-19 care, increasing duty hours, increasing duty days, marital status and being a resident physician. Conclusions: Factors elicited in this study that are associated with stress in HCWs need to be addressed to provide wholesome emotional support to HCWs battling the pandemic. Targeted interventions may result in increased emotional resilience of the health-care system.

Settings and Design: This cross-sectional study was done from Jan 2015 to June 2015 at rural tertiary care teaching hospital. Methods and Materials: Fifty children presenting with physically unexplained symptoms during the study period were assessed. Complete physical and psychiatric assessment was done and diagnosis was made using DSM -IV TR criteria. Patient Health questionnaire-15 (PHQ-15) was used for recording presenting symptoms and severity. Data were analyzed with Statistical Package for social sciences (SPSS 17) and association between different variables was determined using Chi-square test. Results: Male: female ratio was 24:26. Forty-two (84%) of our patients were from rural background. Most common presenting symptom was fainting spells (28%) followed by pain in abdomen (20%). Stressors were elicited in 64% patients and most common stressor was strained interpersonal relations (20%) in family. Females presented with significantly more severe illness (p=0.024). Conclusions: Psychosocial stressors especially interpersonal relations are important factor which needs to be evaluated while encountering patients with somatoform disorder.

Seasonality in mood disorders was initially studied in the context of seasonal affective disorder... more Seasonality in mood disorders was initially studied in the context of seasonal affective disorder (SAD), but later work has demonstrated that seasonality can be considered as a continuum and patients with mood disorders not diagnosed as SAD also have seasonal worsening of symptoms. [1-3] Approximately 10% of all affective disorders show a seasonal pattern of recurrence. Half of these are recurrent depressive disorders; the other half are bipolar disorders (BDs). [4] It is important to identify seasonal changes in mood and behavioural pattern in patients with these disorders because seasonality affects prognosis and implies a more severe or complex disorder. [5] Recognition of factors affecting seasonality also appears to be clinically relevant since these factors might predict recurrence of an affective episode. [6] With the objective of assessing seasonality and its contributing factors in patients with BD, we did a cross-sectional study involving 49 euthymic patients with BD diagnosed according to International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD)-10 criteria. Methods Patients were selected from those who came for follow-up visits to the

Cross-sectional study carried out on inpatients at psychiatric centre, dept. of psychiatry, SMS Medical College, Jaipur, India. W e measured the levels of CRP in N=30 individuals with schizophrenia and in N=15 healthy control subjects as APP. The positive and negative syndrome scale [PANSS] was used in order to rate psychopathology. The data c ollec ted on above tools, were analyzed by using Pearson's correlation coefficient. The schizophrenic patients (5.93+ 8.101) had significantly high CRP levels as compared to healthy control subjects (2.53+ .816). However , CRP value did not show any correlation with ANSS positive symptom subscale, negative symptom scale, general psychopathology and total score. Elevated plasma levels of C-reactive protein in schizophrenia are not associated with the severity of symptoms. The long term consequences of elevated levels of CRP require further investigation. Acute phase protein, C-reactive protein, PANSS, Inflammation.
