Batch experiments were carried out to remove hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions. Different parameters were optimized such as amount of adsorbent, treatment time, pH and concentration of adsorbate. The concentrations of Cr6+ in solutions are determined by UV-Visible spectrophotometer. Maximum percentage removal of Cr6+ was 82% at pH 2. Two equilibrium adsorption isotherms mechanisms are tested Langmuir and Freundlich, the results showed that the isotherm obeyed to Freundlich isotherm. Kinetic models were applied to the adsorption of Cr6+ ions on the adsorbents, pseudo-first-order, the pseudo second-order respectively. Results showed that pseudo second-order kinetic model was applicable to the experimental data well. The thermodynamic parameters such as ΔGº, ΔHº and ΔSº were calculated. ∆H°, ∆S° and ΔGº for this study were negative in...

The properties of modified bentonite were diagnosed using FTIR, X-ray diffraction and SEM. The adsorption of Reactive Red 120 (RR120) onto supported bentonite (B.A.CTAB) was investigated. The influence of various experimental parameters, such as temperature, initial concentration of dye, adsorbent dosages, initial pH and inorganic salts on RR120 removal was studied. The results showed that the optimum conditions for dye adsorption on modified bentonite are: temperature = 303k, pH = 3.5, contact time = 10 min, adsorbent dosage = 0.1 g and RR120 concentration 96 mg.L-1 , it achieved a removal efficiency of 91%. The pseudo-second-order version yields a higher fit to the experimental facts than the pseudo-first-order model. The consequences revealed that Langmuir version turned into extra appropriate to explain RR120 adsorption than the Freundlich model. Also, the thermodynamic function such as ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS° was evaluated. The consequences of various inorganic anions (which included Cl-, SO 4 2-, CO 3 2-, and so forth.) on the removal activity of RR 120 adsorption on modified bentonite was examined.

A PANI nanocomposite was obtained in situ by oxidative polymerization of aniline in acidic medium using ammonium persulphate as initiator in the presence of natural Bentonite at room temperature. The PANI nanofiber and nanocomposite were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).The parameters such as pH, initial conc. of pb(ІІ),contact time and PANI dosage affecting the removal of pb(ІІ) from aqueous solution have been investigated. The studies of kinetic models including pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, intraparticle diffusion and Elovich are performed. Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin adsorption isotherm are investigated. Equilibrium data fitted the Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The thermodynamic parameters such as ΔGo, ΔHo and ΔSo are calculated. The positive value of ΔHo (18....

Some of these compounds are classified as carcinogenic and mutagenic pollutants. Soxhlet technique is used in this work to extract PAHs from sediment samples with using methylene chloride as extraction solvent. High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with UV-Vis detector is used for determination of PAHs. According to the results the maximum of total PAHs concentration in the sediment are found in the location No. 4 with1211.22mg/kg in summer and 211312 mg/kg in winter, while the minimum of total PAHs concentration are found in location No. 1 with 44342 mg/kg in summer and 14322 mg/kg in winter. Locations numbers two three and five record values of total PAHs concentration with (141311, 122341 and 011322 mg/kg) respectively in summer and (11340, 122342 and 121311 mg/kg) respectively in winter. Naphthalene, Fluorene, Anthracene and Fluoranthene are the most dominant compounds in summer, while Benzo [k] fluoranthene, Benzo [a] pyrene, Benzo [ghi] perylene, Dibenz [a,h] anthracene and Indino [121cd] pyreneare the least compounds presence in all sites.

Some of these compounds are classified as carcinogenic and mutagenic pollutants. Solid Phase extraction was used in this work to concentrate PAHs in water samples using Sep-back C18 showed percentage recoveries between (82-97) percent. High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with UV-Vis detector was used for determination of PAHs. The result of PAHs concentrations were found in the water samples range between (zero-186.86)ng/ml. According to our results sites number one, two, six, seven and eight have the least values of total PAHs concentration with 10.8, 12.0, 39.3, 30.7 and 14.9 ng/ml respectively, while, three, four and five sites have a largepolluted with 396.5, 660.9 and 189.5 ng/ml respectivelybecause these sites are near pollutants sources. Naphthalene, Anthracene and Fluoranthene with total concentrations415.8, 259.2 and 286.4 ng/ml respectively, compounds Benzo [a] pyrene and Dibenz [a, h] anthracene arenot detected in all sites.

A simple and sensitive procedure is established for the determination of ponceau 4R using cloud point extraction (CPE). In order to get the optimum conditions for ponceau 4R extraction, various analytical factors such as pH media, nonionic surfactant TX-114 or Brij-56, cationic surfactant CPC and equilibration temperature was investigated. The linearity of calibration graph was above the range of 0.05-1.7 µg ml-1. The LOD and LOQ using TX-114 were based to be 0.025, 0.075 µg ml-1 whereas for Brij-56 were found as 0.062, 0.187 µg ml-1 respectively. The proposed procedure was successfully employed for ponceau 4R detection in several beverages samples.

Separation and quantitative estimation of priority pollutant benzidines composed of various benzidines BZ, including substituted 3, 3'-dichlorobenzidine DCB and 3, 3'-dimethylbenzidine DMB, and priority pollutant phenols (9 compounds, i.e., phenol, 2-and 4-nitrophenol, 2,4-dimethylphenol, 2-, 2,4-di-, 2,4,6-tri-, Penta-chlorophenol, and 4-chloro-3-methylphenol)was performed using high performance liquid chromatography-ultra violet techniques. Both groups were separated using a C-18 column with a UV detector at a wavelength of 280 nm, and the flow of the mobile phase was isocratic. The mobile phase consisted of 75:25 methanol: water. The column temperature was 50°C, and the flow rate was 1.8 ml/min for the Benzedine's separation. The mobile phase consisted of a 50:50 acetonitrile: phosphate buffer. The optimum pH was 7.1, the flow rate was 0.7 ml/min and the optimum column temperature was 45°C for the phenols separation. The separation parameters were calculated, including the chromatographic parameters such as the capacity factor (k), the number of theoretical plates (N) , the selectivity factor (α), and the resolution factors (Rs).This method was applied to real samples. The water samples that were analyzed were obtained from a petroleum refinery wastewater treatment unit. The results ranged between undetectable levels and 246.9μg/L of the selected benzidines. The results were ranged between undetectable levels and 1865.61 μg/L of the selected phenols.
