Tasawwuf or Sufism is often referred to as the esoteric dimension of Islam, focusing on the inner... more Tasawwuf or Sufism is often referred to as the esoteric dimension of Islam, focusing on the inner and spiritual aspects. Sufis usually lead an ascetic life and engage in various spiritual practices to get closer to God. Tariqas were originally autonomous communities usually formed around Sufi masters. This study aims to explore the dimensions of Sufism and tariqa in Islam. The research methodology used is qualitative, with literature study as the data collection method. Various literatures on Sufism and tariqa in Islam were reviewed to get a comprehensive understanding. The findings of this study indicate that Sufism and tariqa are an important part of Muslim religious practices in many parts of the world. Sufism and tariqa have also influenced the socio-religious development and dynamics in the history of Islamic civilization. This study is expected to be the first step towards further research into the esoteric dimensions of Islam.
