Creating a metaphor for the concept of energy can contribute to the determination of the mental s... more Creating a metaphor for the concept of energy can contribute to the determination of the mental structuring of the concept of energy. Pre-service teachers' metaphors about the concept of energy were classified according to traditional and scientific fields. The metaphors produced by the mathematics and science teacher candidates for the concept of energy consisted of structural and abstract concepts, approximately 60% of them were the continuity of life and 40% were science categories. While pre-service mathematics teachers mainly produce metaphors for biology, pre-service science teachers produce metaphors mainly for physics. Empathic tendency scores and levels of pre-service teachers were determined. Pre-service teachers have a high level of empathic disposition and predominantly see the other person's problem and emotion as their own. There was no quantitatively significant difference between traditional metaphor types and empathic tendencies. It is understood that the pre-service teachers have high empathic tendencies, and mostly in the you stage, the concepts related to the continuity of life are primarily used in developing metaphors related to the concept of energy, and they tend to produce structural metaphors. Metaphor and empathy will contribute to the determination of mental models and the establishment of a connection between the fields of science.

For this purpose, a phenomenological design, which is a method of qualitative research, was used in the study, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 18 lecturers. The interviews were subjected to content analysis and as a result of the analysis, the lecturers' views on distance education were revealed. The lecturers evaluated distance education negatively because of limited interaction, lack of communication, insufficient technological tools and equipment, technical infrastructure problems, measurement and evaluation not reflecting the reality, and this education model is not suitable for applied courses. In the distance education process, there were differences compared to face-to-face education in the general teaching of the course, the ...

The mixture was heated and waited for two days. Suitable crystals were obtained from ethyl alcohol solution as brown plates. In all stages of the refinement, Ν1 was refined isotropically. In opposite case, the displacement parameter of N1 was none-positive defined.

This study aims to determine the influence of distance asynchronous teaching of Physics-I topics ... more This study aims to determine the influence of distance asynchronous teaching of Physics-I topics via intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) on academic achievement and permanence. A Web-based learning environment was created by use of an ITS called "Turkish Intelligent Tutoring System" (TURKZOS) for such Physics-I units as work, energy, and conservation of energy. The experimental group of the study consisted of 26 students who had computer and Internet access and participated in the study voluntarily. The achievement test developed by the researchers was used for collecting data. This test was conducted as pre-test and post-test before and after the experimental procedure respectively. The same test was administered to measure permanence 45 days later following the performance of the post-test. The obtained data were analyzed via paired t-test. Mean pre-test score was found to be 23.88, and mean post-test score was found to be 73.80. Mean permanence test, on the other hand, was found to be 71.88. When mean pre-test and post-test scores were compared, a significant difference was identified in favor of the mean post-test score (p < 0.05). In addition, a significant difference was detected between mean permanence test and pre-test scores (p < 0.005). The mean permanence test score was higher than the mean pre-test score. It was concluded that intelligent learning environments created through Web-based tutoring systems have a positive influence on academic achievement and permanence in physics teaching.

The aim of the study is to determine the opinions of 144 pre-service science teachers, who have used WBITS in three different undergraduate courses, about the system. Opinions about whether they are happy to use WBITS, whether the system serves the purpose of the courses (validity), whether the system is an alternative to face-to-face education (reliability) and whether the system is sufficient in pedagogical aspects (pedagogical qualification) were collected. The majority of the candidates stated that they are happy to use the system, that the system can be used to achieve the course objectives, and that the system is pedagogically sufficient and it can be used instead of the traditional classes. The most positive opinions were that the lesson could be used to achieve the course objectives. Negative opin...

A WBITS is an intelligent tutoring system that exhibits behavior similar to that of a teacher in the traditional educational process (classroom education), offers a flexible teaching process, defined according to user preferences, and adaptable for a specific purpose. WBITSs make important contributions to distance education and classroom education processes, because they can be used online and offline. The importance of using WBITSs in teaching physics at undergraduate level was subsumed under five headings: i). Developments in technology and artificial neural networks and the interest of young people in technology have made it important to use WBITSs in undergraduate physics education. ii) The use of WBITSs has become important in following scientific developments in traditional (classroom) physics education and eliminating problems related to individual perception capacity and insufficient class hours. iii). Online (remote) access to physics subjects via WBITSs contributes to equality of opportunity in education. iv). More time can be devoted to practice and the discussion of deeper (advanced) subjects in the classroom when basic physics subjects are taught at undergraduate (university) level using WBITSs. v). Limitations in distance physics education can be reduced using WBITSs.

A survey method was used. The study was conducted with 43 students attending the mathematics teaching program under the department of elementary education. The data were collected through a paper-based survey composed of three parts. In the first part of the survey, there are 9 items about demographic information demographic profile of the respondents such as name, gender, age, study styles, learning styles, and motivation styles. In the second part, there is a scale about "Innovation Awareness Scale" and in the third part there is a scale about views concerning the usability and the influence of WBITS on learning. The data obtained from the study were analyzed using SPSS-21 based on descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage distribution, and arithmetic mean in addition to MANOVA, which is a parametric test, and "Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient". Analysis indicated that the participants were "neither negative or positive" regarding both WBITS and innovation. It was seen that there was no significant relationship between participant awareness regarding innovation and their views regarding WBITS. Another important finding is that study styles, learning styles, and motivation styles are not influential variables over their views about WBITS' usability and its effect on learning attitudes towards WBITS.
