The absorption performance of the designed absorber is simulated using numerical method. Due to the large frequency dispersive permittivity and high relative dielectric loss of water, the bandwidth of the proposed absorber can extend. The proposed structure achieves the absorption response over 0.9 in the broadband frequency range from 0.6 THz to 10 THz under normal incidence. Moreover, the absorbance maintains above 0.8 for a wide incident angle up to 60˚for transverse electronic (TE) mode and above 0.9 for a wide incident angle up to 70˚for transverse magnetic (TM) mode in the entire operating frequency range. Therefore, the designed absorber is a potential candidate for broadband THz applications.

So far, most of the applications were focused on gene knocking out by creating indels. However, more precise genome editing tools are demanded to assist the introduction of functional single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in breeding programs. The CRISPR base editing tools were developed to meet this need. In this chapter, we present a cytidine deaminase base editing method for editing the point mutations that control the grain size and seed coat color in rice.

Research paper thumbnail of A Case Study on Modeling Social Network Privacy Policies Using Event-B

We present a case study on the development of a formally verified PHP web social network applicat... more We present a case study on the development of a formally verified PHP web social network application. With the expansion of social media and our presence in the cyber world, the privacy and security of our content online have become a great concern. Our goal was to investigate whether we could formally verify privacy policies of a social network using the Event-B method. We chose to build a formally verified social network application for the following reasons: formally verifying the model with privacy policies shows consistency between the visibility of the user's content and the privacy setting of that content, and the privacy policies are readily formalized. The project involved building an Event-B model for the application in the Rodin environment, verifying that the user's data is visible to the correct set of people in the network using Rodin's automated theorem provers, and translating the model from Event-B to PHP code using the EventB2SQL tool. We also extended the EventB2SQL tool to generate the user interface components, reducing the amount of code that needed to be completed by hand. The end product of this project is an application that resembles a real-world social network. By developing a formally verified software system, we confirmed Event-B's ability to build models in the area of social network privacy policies.

Research paper thumbnail of The Vietnam Initiative on Zoonotic Infections (VIZIONS): A Strategic Approach to Studying Emerging Zoonotic Infectious Diseases

EcoHealth, Jan 24, 2015

The effect of newly emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases of zoonotic origin in human popul... more The effect of newly emerging or re-emerging infectious diseases of zoonotic origin in human populations can be potentially catastrophic, and large-scale investigations of such diseases are highly challenging. The monitoring of emergence events is subject to ascertainment bias, whether at the level of species discovery, emerging disease events, or disease outbreaks in human populations. Disease surveillance is generally performed post hoc, driven by a response to recent events and by the availability of detection and identification technologies. Additionally, the inventory of pathogens that exist in mammalian and other reservoirs is incomplete, and identifying those with the potential to cause disease in humans is rarely possible in advance. A major step in understanding the burden and diversity of zoonotic infections, the local behavioral and demographic risks of infection, and the risk of emergence of these pathogens in human populations is to establish surveillance networks in pop...

Materials and method: This was a cross-sectional study including 303 female-students in Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, who were between 18 and 45 years of age were approached to participate in this study. The PSST was translated from English to Vietnamese and conversely by obstetrician-gynecologist and psychiatrist independently. This initial version was piloted first in 20 women who were interviewed individually to make sure that participants and interviewers understood the items and the PSST has cultural adaptation before starting the interviews and collecting data. The participants were monitored premenstrual symptoms over at least two consecutive menstrual cycles by the Daily Record of Severity of Problems (DRSP), based on The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition (DSM-5) criteria by American Psychiatric Association. Results: The prevalence o...

For functional symptoms, pain accounted for the highest proportion: 71.6%. The most common skin lesion was nodule: 38.8%, the lower extremities were the most common position: 38.9%. Furuncle had the highest incidence: 45.3%. For main laboratory tests, most patients had a normal number of leucocyte: 71....

EcoHealth, Jan 24, 2015
