Our contribution lies in the exploitation of machine learning techniques to address the complexity and remedy the drawbacks of existing approaches. More specifically, the proposed methodology exploits Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) to aid decision making about the acceptance or rejection of an inspected sample. For any type of inspection, ANNs are trained by data from corresponding tables of a standard-s sampling plan schemes. Once trained, ANNs can give closed-form solutions for any acceptance quality level and sample size, thus leading to an automation of the reading of the sampling plan tables, without any need of compromise with the values of the specific standard chosen each time. The proposed methodology provides enough flexibility to quality control engineers during the inspection o...

These services aim at sustaining collaboration, supporting tacit and explicit knowledge management and enhancing individual and organizational learning in communities of practice (CoPs). Defined by Dourish and Belloti as "an understanding of the activities of others, which provides a context for one's own activity", awareness is one of the most crucial needs expressed by communities of practice in the framework of the participatory design process implemented within the Palette project. Awareness of past and current actions in shared environments and over shared artifacts motivates participation and guides the members' decisions and course of actions. This paper describes the approach adopted by two Web-based collaboration support applications, namely eLogbook and CoPe_it!, for developing awa...

It allows for aggregating information from textual references, measuring similarity when content is not available, traditional keyword search in search engines, merging results in meta-search engines and many more research and industry interesting activities. Existing similarity measures do not take into consideration neither the unique nature of multimedia’s metadata nor the requirements of metadata-based information retrieval of multimedia. This work proposes a customised for the commonly available author-title multimedia metadata hybrid similarity measure that is shown through experimentation to be significantly more effective than

OI is associated with strategic capabilities, as well as with operational ones. ICT support in the strategic capabilities development is related to the cognitive processes of managerial staff to develop the appropriate level of absorptive capacity, whereas ICT as part of operational capabilities aims at enhancing the performance of day-to-day OI activities. Taking this into account, we develop a framework that associates specific ICTs with functionalities needed in the entire OI process. Paying much attention to the issues of collaboration and data analysis, we also comment on the integration of these technologies and their embedment in organizational processes.

To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work on the prediction of future research collaborations that combines structural and textual information of a scientific knowledge graph through a purposeful integration of graph algorithms and natural language processing techniques. Our work: (i) investigates whether the integration of unstructured textual data into a single knowledge graph affects the performance of a link prediction model, (ii) studies the effect of previously proposed graph kernels based approaches on the performance of an ML model, as far as the link prediction problem is concerned, and (iii) proposes a three-phase pipeline that enables the exploitation of structural and textual information, as well as of pre-trained word embeddings. We benchmark the proposed approach against classical link prediction algorithms using accuracy, recall...

We distinguish two types of capabilities for OI: strategic, which need to be developed so that the organization can take advantage of an OI strategy proactively, and operational for the efficient implementation of OI processes. ICT at the strategic level supports dynamic capabilities and related cognitive processes of managerial staff for developing and using the appropriate level of absorptive capacity and active transparency, whereas ICT as part of operational capabilities aims at enhancing the day-to-day performance of OI activities. Through analysis of capabilities, we associate specific ICT with the functionalities required in the entire OI process. Paying particular attention to the issues of collaboration and sophisticated data analysis, we also comment on the seamless integration of these technologies and their embedment in OI-related organizational processes.

The objective is to minimize the total weighted earliness and tardiness penalty in the case when weights are proportional to the processing times of the respective jobs. For each method, an optimization algorithm has been developed, by means of which the set of all optimal sequences is provided. The numerical example, presented after the theoretical foundation, confirms considerations about the structural similarity of the two methods.
