Method: The study was conducted from May to August 2019 at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Lahore, Pakistan, and comprised paediatric patients aged 3-5 years assessed as American Society of Anaesthesiologists grade I and II who were scheduled to undergo elective intrathecal chemotherapy under general anaesthesia. The subjects were randomised into intervention group A and control group B. Patients in group A were part of an incentive-based game in the holding bay area and were transported to the operation theatre using a battery-operated toy vehicle. Those in group B watched a pre-decided cartoon on television screen in the holding bay and were transported further using wheel chair. Induction of anaesthesia was done in the presence of guardians in both the group...

STUDY DESIGN Observer-blinded randomised control trial. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY Department of Anesthesiology, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital Lahore (SKMCH), from February to December 2017. METHODOLOGY One hundred and twenty patients of more than 18 years, ASA I and II, planned for unilateral elective modified radical mastectomy under general anesthesia, were scheduled randomly to receive either general anesthesia plus PECS block (n = 60) or general anesthesia alone (n = 60). Pain scores at fixed intervals were measured using Numeric Pain Rating Score (NPRS) after the surgery. RESULTS Pain score in the PECS block group was significantly lower than the control group in postoperative period. Less dose of morphine was required in the PECS block group postope...

Research paper thumbnail of Analgesic Efficacy of Combination of Bilateral Superficial Cervical Plexus Block and Standard Analgesia with Standard Analgesia Alone in Patients Undergoing Thyroid Cancer Surgery. A Randomised-Controlled Trial

A sample size of 60 patients (30 patients in each group) was calculated with 95% confidence interval and power of 80%.Results: The mean pain-free duration for the Group A (BLSCPB group) was 72 min (SD 30.1) compared to 53 min (standard deviation 30.3) for the Group B. This shows a significant reduction in pain-free duration in Group A. Average NRS pain score in the Group A at q 0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 min was (0.83, 1.83, 0.23, 1.76 and 1.49), whereas the average pain score on NRS in the Group B at the same time interval mentioned above for Group A was (2.1, 2.73, 4.53, 2.44 and 1...
