The study was performed in a 1.0 M solution of sodium hydroxide and was monitored both by measuring mass-loss and by using electro-chemical and polarization methods. In addition, surface morphology analysis was performed by applying the technique of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Results demonstrate effectiveness of Capparis decidua extract as an inhibitor and the efficiency is both concentration and temperature dependent. Optimum (95.2%) inhibitor efficiency was found with maximum extract concentration at 45˚C. Results also show a slight decrease of aluminum dissolution upon increasing temperature using Capparis decidua extract. Based on Langmuir adsorption model, Capparis decidua adsorption on aluminum surface shows a high regression coefficient value. Based on the observed results, the activation enthalpy (ΔH#) and activation entropy (ΔS#) have been estimated and discussed. The value, and sign,...

More specifically, I will describe the diverse reactivity of 1-aza-2-azoniaallene systems to make polycyclic diazenium salts and tetrahydropyridazine rings. I will also describe mechanistic studies undertaken to better understand this reactivity. The Brewer research group has discovered that hydrazones undergo an oxidation reaction with chlorodimethylsulfonium chloride to afford -chloroazo compounds, which react intramolecularly with pendent alkene units to give bicyclic ring fused and bridged diazenium salts. My work includes a mechanistic study to understand how the reaction proceeds and what factors affect its outcome. I will also describe the development of a new method to make diazenium salts in a shorter and more efficient route using a hypervalent Iodine (III) reagent. Mo...

LC-MS/MS Screening, Total Phenolic, Flavonoid and Antioxidant Contents of Crude Extracts from Three Asclepiadaceae Species Growing in Jordan, 2022

Decne. Both butanol and aq. methanol extracts of the three species showed the highest amount of phenol and flavonoid contents, which exhibited the greatest antioxidant activity in the scavenging of 2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radical (DPPH), 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt radical cation (ABTS), ferrous chelating effect (FIC), and hydroxyl radical (HDR) assays. Phytochemical screening of the extracts revealed the presence of alkaloids, tannins, sponins, flavonoids, terpenoids, and glycosides. LC-MS analysis was carried out to identify the major compounds from each crude extract. A total of 12 phenolic compounds in the extracts of the 3 species were identified and quantified, including 9 flavonoids, 2 hydroxybenzoic acids, and 3 hydroxycinnamic acids. The current study also revealed a good correlation between total phenolic contents and the observed antioxidant activity of the crude extracts.
