In Sweden, influx of migrants resulted in problems with access to in-classroom Swedish language courses for migrants in general, and for health care professionals (HCPs) in particular. Due to its accessibility, mobile technology can be a bridging tool between migrants and host societies, providing an alternative/complement to classroom teaching.

In this study, mobile applications (apps) for Swedish language training, information about host society and contacts with locals targeted at newly arrived Arabic migrants are analysed. With focus on language and cultural training we developed a model for evaluation that takes into account both Technological, Pedagogical, Linguistic and Cultural aspects. The TPLC-model for evaluation shows that language training as well as translation and vocabulary apps dominate the Swedish market, while societal information is largely absent. Most of the analysed apps are technically reliable, free of charge and available for Android or both Android and iOS. However, in regard to the pedagogical aspects, the apps demonstrate a focus on traditional pedagogical approaches with basic vocabulary training and similar, while more active learning and pronunciation and speaking activities are less common. The latter can, together with expansion of intercultural communication, be areas for further development in mobile learning for integration purposes.

Though many AI initiatives targeting migrants have been initiated, research is limited on the design, outcomes and effectiveness of such initiatives. Today, there is a lack of effective implementation protocols and opportunities to assess whether these technologies constitute successful intervention tools and actually contribute to migrant integration. This four-year interdisciplinary research project seeks to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities that artificial intelligence (AI) entails for facilitating migrant employment integration and workplace inclusion. We address the following research questions: 1. How is AI used by migrants, their co-workers and the actors involved in their employment integration process? 2. How does AI enhance migrant professional competences? and 3. What are pathways to success of AI interventions for integration and inclusion purposes? A combinati...

This pilot study seeks to outline the most critical cultural differences between Danes and Swedes. zThe study performs a literature analysis to identify the cultural features of the Danish and Swedish businessman and discusses research by Hampden-Turner & Trompenaars (1993), Hofstede (1997), Hofstede (2001), Hall (2005), Lewis (2008), and Weiss (2009). The literature analysis identifies the Danish businessman as an individualist with short-term orientation, who is goal-oriented and has a qualitative relationship to time. The Swedish businessman is identified as individualist with focus on egalitarianism, consensus, and long-term orientation. These features make him appear collectivistic in the eyes if the Danes. Also, the Swede is process-oriented with a qualitative relationship to time. The study supports the discussion with an interview analy...

Discourse within the socio-political realms reflects in discourse within the economic realms. A common channel through which such perspectives are mediated between the political realms, corporate relations, and public opinion is the news media, both traditional and new, such as social media and Internet publishing. This chapter examines and compares how major business newspapers in Sweden, Dagens Industry (DI), and two business newspapers in Russia, Kommersant (Ъ-Газета Коммерсантъ) and RBC (РБК) represent Sweden’s national image between 2014-2015, a period of uncertain socio-political relations between Russia and the Nordic Eurasian states, in particular, Sweden, in the process of the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation in 2014. Ethiopia reported the first COVID-19 in March, 2020. The number of cases is increasing, putting much pressure on oncology care. This study examines what the Ethiopian cancer patients and their caregivers knew about COVID 19 after the initial stages of the pandemic. It also assesses the information needs, psychological experiences as well as the impact of pandemic on oncologistpatient- caregiver communication and treatment process. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 200 participants (100 cancer patients and 100 caregivers) at the initial stage of pandemic (May 1 - June 30, 2020) at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Data was collected using a pretested, structured questionnaire to assess knowledge and perceptions on COVID-19. Ethics approval was obtained from the Ethical Review Board of TASH (04/14/2015...

However, studies show that incumbent firms have persistent problems with adopting and scaling such practices. In this paper, we present an empirical account of agile transformation in a large manufacturing company that has adopted the SAFe framework. Based on interviews, focus groups, and observation data, we identify three themes for understanding how employees experience and cope with transformative change by: 1) making sense of the new, 2) practicing with peers and 3) letting go of legacy. Key findings are that initially employees are more concerned with making sense of the new rather than with the implementation of agile itself and that implementation of agile happens very gradually over time rather than through major breakthroughs. Thus, it takes time for employees to weather change, become ...

Trust, Organizations and Social Interaction

Based on an analysis of a number of physician-patient consultations in a Swedish hospital, we show how consultations lead to increased trust or decreased trust and in some situations have no apparent effect. The consultations, and the accounts given in them, can lead to trusting if they correspond to the uncertainty or needs that the other party expresses, assuming willingness to collaborate and cooperate. However, counteracting distrust (perhaps using accounts) is complicated, especially when this unexpectedly becomes necessary in ongoing interaction. Purpose In this chapter, we will illustrate how trusting and distrusting are expressed in dialogue in a Swedish organizational context-public health care. In doing so, we will point to the enactment of accountability as a critical aspect of establishing and maintaining or not maintaining trust relationships. Specifically, we will analyse and discuss how the requesting and giving of accounts influence trusting and distrusting with the purpose of contributing to the understanding of trusting as a dynamic relational process that can vary with circumstances.

Drawing on interviews and interactive workshops with team members and stakeholders at two different Swedish agile software development organizations, we identify interrelated challenges such as aligning expectations, prioritizing demands, providing regular feedback, and maintaining continuous dialogue, which influence team-stakeholder interaction, relationships and performance. Our study shows the importance of understanding communicative hurdles and provides suggestions for their mitigation, therefore meriting further empirical research.

METHODS The study was conducted at Tikur Anbessa (Black Lion) Specialized Hospital. The sample consists of patients with a confirmed cancer diagnosis, their family caregivers, and representatives from the general public with 150 subjects per cohort. The study used a comparative cross-sectional design and multivariable data analysis. RESULTS The patients would like to be informed, which contradicts the preferences of family caregivers. This creates an ethical dilemma for staff in terms of how much they involve their patients in clinical decision making. The patients also indicate that information should not be withheld from them. By contrast, the general public prefers information about poor life expectancy to be communicated to family only, which may reflect a widespread public perception of cancer as a deadly di...
