Comparative morphometrics with accounts of other populations ofP. altmanifrom elsewhere off the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of North and South America revealed marked intraspecific population variations. We report scanning electron micrographs (SEM) of new features, not before noted or captured in line drawings by earlier observers. We further present microscope images that reveal internal details not previously reported or possible to see with SEM. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDXA) revealed unusual patterns in the chemistry of proboscis hooks especially the high sulfur and diminished phosphorous and calcium in hook tips and low sulfur and high levels of phosphorous and calcium at mid hooks. The size an...

The results of the survey showed low level of invasion. Only 3 out of 56 fishes appeared to be infected with parasites. A monogenean parasite, Onchocleidus dispar (Muller, 1936) of L. gibbosus was discovered from Ukrainian waters for the first time.

P. mazurmovici and P. skuratovitchi confirmed as valid species, though their original descriptions were very brief and based on a mixed sub-adult and adult individuals. Metrical data of these species together with new morphological information are provided and incorporated in a dichotomous key to adult Polystoma from anurans of Ukraine. Redescription of an adult form of P. skuratovitchi and descriptions of sub-adult forms of P. mazurmovici and P. skuratovitchi are provided. Study confirms strict host specificity of polystomes and increases the number of already known species of Polystoma of Ukrainian fauna to four.

Th e highest species richness of parasites was registered for G. gobio (7 species). Four species of parasites were found in S. cephalus. Three parasite species were found in E. lucius. Two parasite species were detected in R. rutilus and P. fluviatilis. C. taenia, M. fossilis, and S. baltica harboured each one species of parasites. Gyrodactylus sp. from S. baltica was reported for the first time. All parasites represent new geographical finding for the north of Ukraine.

Different culture media are currently used for the T. gallinae identification in these hosts. Two commercially available cultured media, namely modified Diamond's medium and modified thioglycolate medium, were used to identify T. gallinae growth. Microscopic examinations of oral swabs of pigeons were carried out post inoculation by incubating at various temperature. Significant difference between incubation time found for modified Diamond's medium and Modified thioglycolate medium have been tested. Modified thioglycolate medium had been tested as a readily available, low-cost substitute for the Diamond's medium. Diamond's medium is considered as "gold standard" for identification T. gallinae in animals. However, modified thioglycolate medium was found to be practically efficient than Diamond's medium in recovering the parasites from specimens and may provide a readily available, low-cost substitute for the Diamond's medium. The current research also demonstrated the histopathology associated with infection of T. gallinae.

We studied specimens of Neoechinorhynchus (Hebesoma) personatus Tkach, Sarabeev & Shvetsova, 2014 from Mugil cephalus in the Mediterranean Sea off Tunisia and in the Black Sea, and also specimens of Neoechinorhynchus ponticus n. sp. from Chelon auratus Risso in the Black Sea. Specimens from M. cephalus at both locations were similar. All structures of N. ponticus n. sp. were considerably smaller than those of N. personatus. Two other species of the N. agilis complex are recognized: Neoechinorhynchus agilis (Rudolphi, 1819) sensu stricto from various hosts in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, and Neoechinorhynchus yamagutii Tkach, Sarabeev & Shvetsova, 2014 from M. cephalus and Planiliza haematocheila in the Pacific, especially the Sea of Japan. Neoechinorhynchus dimorphospinus Amin & Sey, 1996 from marine fish in the Persian Gulf and the Pacific Ocean off Vietnam may be a candidate for membership in the N. agilis c...

From 240 fish of 12 species (carp bream, roach, silver bream, silver carp, bighead carp, carp, zander, perch, prussian carp, grass carp, pike, amur bitterling) found 51 species of parasites. From them 4 species of Protozoa, 22 species of Monogenetic flatworms, 6 species of digenetic flatworms (trematodes), 7 species of tapeworms, 8 species of roundworms, 2 species of parasitic leeches, 3 species of parasitic crustacean, 1 species of glokhidia of molluscs. There was a trend to a decrease in the number of species of parasites with complex life cycles (occurring with the change of hosts). These data are unique in that much detail parasite fauna of this reservoir has not been studied for nearly 30 years. For all parasites parameters of infection were given.

The preliminary conclusion about moderate decrease in a species diversity of fauna of parasites, about qualitative changes in its structure, occurring probably under the influence of anthropogenic pollution was made. In the paper, an analysis of published data on the parasite fauna of fish of Kakhovske reservoir, a complete list of Latin names of parasites is given in a systematic way. Also a list of parasites of each species of fish is provided. A comparison of the fauna with literary data was held, showing what types of parasites disappeared, and which have appeared over the 30-year period.

A morphometric analysis of both forms strongly suggests that they represent the same species. According to the 'Principle of priority', L. pilengas is proposed as a senior synonym of L. gussevi.

It was established, that morphometric characteristics of L. vanbenedenii vary more widely, than it was known from previous works. Sizes of haptoral hard parts was related to host size. However, there were no relation between metric characters and sex of fish from the size of hard parts of genitalia and worms body size. The infrapopulation size of L. vanbenedenii had no detectable effect on their morphometric traits. Results of work as a whole correspond to similar studies which have been carried out on phylogenetically close organisms
