These aircraft systems are designed to carry out certain missions such as surveillance, reconnaissance, and monitoring in civil, military and custom applications. Due to the various requirements and mission constraints, various UAV configurations exist, among which conventional and morphing aircrafts. The latter category refers to aircrafts whose configuration can be altered to achieve certain performance characteristics, namely increased flight range and endurance. This paper discusses the design process and manufacturing of a remote-controlled, experimental UAV for two wing configurations: fixed and variable span, in order to assess the potential benefits of a morphing-wing aircraft. The morphing actuation is projected to be by means of a belt-and-pulley mechanism. The aircraft is intended to transmit live images to a ground station, transmitted from a camera attached underneath the fuselage.

The aim of this research work is to examine the hypoesthesia & pain after the inguinal hernia repair with the utilization of different kinds of surgeries as laparoscopic, open suture & open mesh. Methodology: A sum of total ninety-six patients were the part of this research work with follow-up median of 4.70 years. We performed the procedure of open suture in forty patients forming Group-A, repair procedure of open mesh in twenty patients forming Group-B & procedure of laparoscopic repair in thirty-six patients as a part of Group-C. The assessment of the pain & hypoesthesia carried out with the utilization of the von Frey mono-filaments. Short Form 36 was in use for the investigation of the QoL (Quality of Life). Results: The occurrence of pain minimum once in a week was present in 17.50% (n: 7) patients of Group-A, in 25.0% (n: 5) participants of Group-B & in 16.60% (n: 6) subjects of Group-C. Site & seriousness of the hypo-sensibility were available with increased values after repair of open non-mesh & mesh in comparison to those after the repair through laparoscopy. Hypo-sensibility in the patients who underwent laparoscopic hernia repair was available with association with the pain after the surgery. Kinds of the pain after surgery were somatic in 61.0% (n: 19), neuropathic in 29.0% (n: 9) & visceral in 10.0% (n: 3) patients with no important disparities among 3 groups. Conclusions: Prevalence of the hypoesthesia in the subjects who experienced hernia repair using laparoscopy was much lower as compare to the patients who underwent hernia repair by open procedure. The incidence of hypoesthesia after the laparoscopy but not after the method of open-repair as much association with the pain after surgery. The most vital standards for the evaluation of the hypoesthesia as well as pain in the patients who underwent hernia repair allowing the comparison of various operational procedures.

Methodology: There were total two hundred and eight patients with infertility (four hundred and forty-six varicoceles) who got for varicocelectomy by an open inguinal procedure in ninety-two patients, laparoscopy in ninety-four patients & sub-inguinal microsurgeries in one hundred and twelve patients. We compared the all three procedures about intraoperative, initial & delayed parameters after surgery, alterations in the parameters of semen & rate of pregnancy. Average follow up duration of the patients was 21.0±9.0 months with a range from four to thirty-five months. Results: The surgery duration was much greater in the microscopic group of study. We compared the initial complications after surgery in all three groups. During the follow up period, no patient in the micro-surgical group found with hydrocele, whereas we observed that four out of 143 (2.80%) in the group of open procedure & eight out of 148 (5.40%) in the group of laparoscopy group, demonstrating an important disparity in the support of the microsurgery. The occurrence of the recurring varicoceles was much less in the micro-surgical group as compared to the other groups of open & laparoscopy (four out of 155 or 2.60% patients' vs sixteen out of 143 or 11.0% & twenty-five out of 148 or 17.0%, correspondingly). In comparison with the values before surgery in all groups the parameters of semen after surgery displayed advancement in the concentration of sperm, sperm's motility & morphology. The prevalence of the infertile patients with improved count of the sperm & their motility was very high in the group of micro-surgery. The rate of pregnancy was not much different in all the participants of each group. Conclusions: The comparison of all 3 techniques showed that micro-surgical varicocelectomy has high benefits as compared to the other methods as no formation of the hydrocele, very low occurrence of recurring varicocele and good improvement in the count & motility of the sperms.

Research paper thumbnail of Identification of Shear Zones and Their Causal Mechanisms Using a Combination of Cone Penetration Tests and Seismic Data in the Eastern Niger Delta

Submarine Mass Movements and Their Consequences, 2010

In a site investigation of the eastern part of the offshore Niger delta, cone penetration tests (... more In a site investigation of the eastern part of the offshore Niger delta, cone penetration tests (CPTU) showed significant drops in tip resistance, associated with decreases in sleeve friction and induced excess pore pressures at the interface between superficial sediments and the underlying deposits of a mass-transport complex (MTC) called NG1. Such signature characteristics of weakened zones are clearly expressed at three sites where the drop in tip resistance reaches more than 40% over 2-3 m-thick intervals. Correlations between CPTU profiles and both 3D and ultrahigh-resolution 2D seismic data suggest that the weakened zones surround syndepositional the within the frontal part of NG1. Hence, weakening appears associated with the remobilization of thrust faults, inducing localized plastic shear. Relatively recent, deep-seated structural movements affecting NG1 are suspected to have remobilized these thrusts faults. When considering the sole influence of gravity, the fact that shear strength is mobilized within scattered, limited zones along steeply dipping syndepositional faults is not favorable for the further development of a continuous slope-parallel failure surface above NG1.

A 49-year-old woman presented with left lower limb DVT, which was followed by a diagnosis of MTS on a background of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and hypothyroidism. MTS is more common among women in the second to fourth decades of life. An endovascular approach is the preferred first-line treatment for MTS. LEARNING POINTS This case highlights the importance of serial ultrasound Doppler scans in cases where the probability of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is high as a negative initial Doppler scan does not exclude DVT. May–Thurner syndrome (MTS) should be suspected especially in younger patients in whom no cause for DVT has been found. Missing a diagnosis of MTS could result in life-threatening conditions such as pulmonary embolism and post-thrombotic syndrome.
