A new fluorene ligand, benzo[15-crown-5]-5H-pyrido[3′,2′:4,5]cylopenta[1,2-b]pyridin-5-ylidenehyd... more A new fluorene ligand, benzo[15-crown-5]-5H-pyrido[3′,2′:4,5]cylopenta[1,2-b]pyridin-5-ylidenehydrazone (bph), has been synthesized from the reaction of 4,5-diazafluoren-9-one with 4′-formylbenzo-15-crown-5. The Co(II), Cu(II), and Ru(II) complexes of the ligand were prepared and characterized. The metal-to-ligand ratio of the Co(II) and Cu(II) complexes was found to be 2:1 and that of the Ru(II) complex was found to be 1:1. The ligand and complexes have been characterized by FTIR, UV–visible, 1H NMR and fluorescence spectra, as well as elemental analyses and mass spectra.

The ligand reacts with Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) salts to form complexes. The complexes have been characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR (DMSO-d6), elemental analyses and magnetic measurements. Protonation constants of the ligand and overall formation constants of the complexes have been calculated from potentiometric data using the program TITFIT

Polymer inclusion membranes are a type of liquid membrane that is used to separate and extract ca... more Polymer inclusion membranes are a type of liquid membrane that is used to separate and extract cations and anions. For instance, these are used to separate toxic metal wastes from the environment. 1,10-Phenanthroline has been used as a preferred classic chelated ligand for transition metal ions. In this study, we prepared a cellulose tri-acetate (CTA) polymeric membrane containing 1,10-phenanthroline. We used a combination of CTA membrane with polyethylene glycol to extract metals from aqueous solutions using a two-compartment permeation cell having a feed and stripping solution. We used cobalt, nickel, copper, and cadmium metals to prepare the feed solution, whereas ammonia and tri-ethanolamine were used to prepare the stripping solution. Cadmium remains in the feed solution, whereas cobalt, nickel, and copper are transferred to the stripping phase. The extraction efficiencies of metals were found to be in the order Co > Ni > Cu. This method resulted in the extraction of 91% cobalt, 89% nickel, and 89% copper in an aqueous solution. In addition, the modified membranes were characterized for their compositional analysis and surface morphology. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was used to determine the presence of functional groups.

In this study, a new phenoxy cyclophosphazene derivative bis(2-formyl-phenyl)4,4,6,6-bis[spiro(2’... more In this study, a new phenoxy cyclophosphazene derivative bis(2-formyl-phenyl)4,4,6,6-bis[spiro(2’,2”-dioxy-1’,1”biphenylyl)]cyclotriphosphazene (P2) was synthesis in by the reactions between 2,2-dichloro-4,4,6,6-bis[spiro(2’,2”-dioxy-1’,1”biphenylyl)]cyclotriphosphazene (P1) with salicyl aldehyde in presence of K2CO3 at room temperature in THF under argon atmosphere, and the new phenoxy cyclophosphazene derivative Schiff bases which are containing long-chain alkyl groups and salicyl aldehyde, bis[spiro(2’,2”-dioxy-1’,1”biphenylyl)2,3-diphenoxy-2-imidododesyl]cyclotriphosphazene (P3) synthesized by condensation reactions in suitable conditions with (P2) and dodecylamine. Synthesized ligands have been investigated with the methods of FTIR, 31P NMR, Uv-vis, MS spectroscopies, elemental and thermal analysis (TGA and DSC). Co(III), Ru(II) complexes were synthesized (L/M) 1:2 ratio and characterized FTIR, UV-vis and MS spectra, together with elemental and thermal analysis.

Mixed ligand complexes of the type MLL 0 Cl 2 (where M ¼ Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), ... more Mixed ligand complexes of the type MLL 0 Cl 2 (where M ¼ Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), and Hg(II), L ¼ ligand derived from the reaction between benzofuran-2-carbohydrazide and 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde (TMeOBFC), and L 0 ¼ ortho-phenylenediamine (opd)/2,6-diaminopyridine (2,6-dap)) have been synthesized. The complexes have been characterized by analytical data, IR, UV-Vis, 1 H NMR, DART-MS and ESR spectral data, and magnetic studies. Molar conductance values indicate that the complexes are non-electrolytic in DMF. Antibacterial and antifungal activities of the ligands and complexes have been screened against bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus and against fungi Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus.

Synthesized compounds have been structurally characterized by IR, 1H NMR, LC-MS, fluorescence spectroscopy, elemental and thermal (TGA-DSC) analyses. The metal to the ligand ratio of the Ru(II) complex was found to be 1:1. Antifungal activities of the ligand and complex have been investigated. The Ru(II) complex have strong antifungal activity than the ligand against Aspergillus niger.

A new thiourea derivative ligand (LH 2 ), 6-amino-5-ylamino-benzo[15-crown-5]-15-ylaminoethanethi... more A new thiourea derivative ligand (LH 2 ), 6-amino-5-ylamino-benzo[15-crown-5]-15-ylaminoethanethione[1,10]phenanthroline has been synthesized in the reaction of 5,6-diamino-1,10-phenanthroline with 15-isothiocyanatobenzo[15-crown-5] and its metal complexes with Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) have been prepared. The structures and compositions of the ligand and the complexes have been confirmed by elemental analyses, UV-vis, FTIR, 'H NMR (DMSO-d 6 ), 13 C NMR (DMSO-d 6 ), mass spectra (LC-MS) and magnetic measurements. The metal to the ligand ratio of the Cu(II), Ni(II) and Co(II) complexes have been found to be 1:2. Gravimetric, titrimetric, polarographic, optical and radiochemical methods have been reported for... more Gravimetric, titrimetric, polarographic, optical and radiochemical methods have been reported for the determination of iron(II) and (III). Numerous reagents have also been reported for the spectrophotometric determination of Fe(II); for example, thiocyanate, dipyridine, tripyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline. The 1,10phenanthroline family has been extended to the use of dihydroxy, dimethyl, nitro and diphenyl derivatives. The spectrophotometric determination method of a red-orange complex that forms between iron(II) and 1,10-phenanthroline is practical and sensitive. An excess of reducing reagent, such as hydroxylamine or hydroquinone, is needed for iron(III)1−7. In the transition series elements zinc(II), copper(I) and copper(II) would be expected to form labile outer orbital complexes with 1,10-phenanthroline since all their 3d are already occupied. Quantitative observations confirm that their rates of reaction with 1,10-phenanthroline are faster than iron(II) (ferroin forms). Nickel...

As a multidonor ligand with phenanthroline and salicylaldimine functionalities on the same molecu... more As a multidonor ligand with phenanthroline and salicylaldimine functionalities on the same molecule, 5,6-bis(salicylideneimino)-1,10-phenanthroline (LH 2 ) has been synthesized by the reaction of 5,6-diamino-1,10-phenanthroline with salicylaldehyde and its metal complexes with Ni(II) and Cu(II) have been prepared. Both of the isolated complexes are trinuclear with metal/ligand ratio of 3:2. Protonation constants of LH 2 which have been determined by potentiometric titration in solution are log K 1 =8.96, log K 2 =15,88, log K 3 =8.73 and log K 4 =2.78. The newly synthesized compounds have been verified by IR, 1 H NMR and mass spectra together with elemental analysis.

Protonation constants of LH 2 which have been determined by potentiometric titration in solution are log K 1 =8.96, log K 2 =15,88, log K 3 =8.73 and log K 4 =2.78. The newly synthesized compounds have been verified by IR, 1 H NMR and mass spectra together with elemental analysis.
