their universe, which is played on festive and ritual representations that keeps alive their identity.
Among various existing rituals, the Mapimaí explains the origin of the world and represented by
several days. Representative symbols Mapimaí in 2011, the object of this research, the harpy
eagle, the forest and the river, but these symbols are given new meanings - and not lose its
largest sense, from event to event. Kaban The group owner of “chicha” and host of the event, led
the ritual, and chose the village Apoena Meireles located in Rondolândia, Mato Grosso, to be the
locus of its representation. The ritual is performed with the maize beer drink that can be made
from manioc, yams, corn or yams prepared and fermented in advance. It is made painting a
wooden trunk (throne) on which the guests by the owner of “chicha” will sit. Made all the
preparations, the Gamep, Gamir, Makor and Kaban groups meet, challenge each other to drink
“chicha” to bear no more. Couples dance in a circle holding hands or embracing each other
under the sound of flute and song whose lyrics address the role of the harpy eagle, forest and
river - as elements of identity construction - and the letters are not repeated. In short, the intent
of the ritual event is to strengthen the union between Paiter Suruí.
