Mostly diagnosed at an advanced stage with a <5% cure chance. Early-stage diagnosis may increase the number of patients who reach curative treatment. Fourier Transform InfraRed (FT-IR) spectroscopy was used to detect chemical changes in serum collected from CCA patients vs. healthy individuals. The study aims to correlate the FTIR spectra with biochemical indices such as TAS, TOS, OSI, and total protein levels. Decreased TAS and increased TOS, OSI, and total protein levels in CCA patients vs. healthy individuals were found. FTIR spectra showed higher absorbance of the peaks corresponding to C–O and bending vibration of C–O–H groups in CCA patients, while more CH2 functional groups than lipids could be seen in the FTIR spectra of controls serum. PLS analysis showed IR ranges of 1500 cm-1 to 1700 cm-1, and 2700 cm-1 to 3000 cm-1 were able to dis...

Materials and Materials: Pregnant women with normal 50-gram GCT (198 cases), abnormal 50-gram GCT and normal 100-gram OGTT (160 cases), and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or GDM diagnosed with 100-gram OGTT (212 cases) were included. Data was collected from hospital automation system and clinical records. The authors compared demographic, obstetric, and neonatal outcomes among these three groups. Results: Mean maternal age (31.5 ± 5.2 years), history of GDM (4.2%), and the rate of cesarean section delivery in previous pregnancy (41,5%) were statistically higher in group 3 (IGT+GDM group) compared to both group 1 (normal 50-gram GCT) and group 2 (borderline hyperglycemia), respectively (p < 0.01, p < 0.01, and p < 0.01). The duration of maternal hospitalization was longer (2.40 ± 1.28 and 2.39 ± 1.25 vs. 1.79 ± 1.15 day, p = 0.001, p = 0.001, respectively) and postoperative hemoglobin values were lower (10.71 ± 1.44 and 10.69 ± 10.90 vs. 11.22 ± 1.43, p = 0.015, p = 0.006, respectively) both in groups 2 and 3 when compared with group 1. However preeclampsia was statistically more commonly developed in group 3 than in groups 1 and 2 (16% vs. 6.1% and 11.3%; p < 0.05). Neonatal hypoglycemia was more common both in groups 2 and 3 compared to group 1 (11.8%, 4.6% vs. 0%; p < 0.001, p = 0.045, respectively) and first minute apgar scores were higher in group 1 than in groups 2 and 3 (7.97 ± 0.55 vs. 7.65 ± 1.19 and 7.60 ± 1.17; p = 0.003, p = 0.001, respectively). Duration of hospitalization period for neonates was longer in groups 2 and 3 than in group 1 (2.22 ± 1.28 and 2.42 ± 1.48 vs. 1.82 ± 1.17 day; p = 0.006, p = 0.001). Conclusion: Borderline hyperglycemia can cause maternal, perinatal, and neonatal adverse outcomes. Both obstetricians and neonatologists must keep in mind the unfavorable pregnancy outcomes of borderline hyperglycemia cases and careful follow up is needed even if it is not accepted as GDM and IGT.

Anti-NMDA encephalitis is a rare autoimmune disorder that affects the central nervous system. We ... more Anti-NMDA encephalitis is a rare autoimmune disorder that affects the central nervous system. We report a case of a 22-year-old male patient with a history of prodromal flu-like symptoms followed by brief aggression episodes, paranoid symptoms, and stereotypic movements. Routine blood work, a brain MRI, and an EEG were normal. Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) studies show no abnormality, and the neuronal antibody panel was administered. Antipsychotics and benzodiazepines did not have any benefits, and Electroconvulsive Treatment (ECT) was recommended for the ongoing symptoms of catatonia. Movement disorders and cognition gradually improved after the second session of ECT. Later, CSF study results demonstrated the presence of anti-NMDA antibodies, and standard therapy was administered. Our case suggests that ECT may be an effective treatment option for patients with anti-NMDA encephalitis. Further studies are needed to confirm the efficacy and safety of ECT in this patient population.

Since investigating alcohol use alone is insufficient in the diagnostic evaluation process, self-awareness and the individual’s long-term psychological well-being are important in the treatment process. Primary prevention is used for preventing disease in healthy people, whereas secondary prevention is used for early diagnosis of people at risk. Tertiary prevention is important to prevent the recurrence of the disease. Since substance use disorders are a chronic problems, a new need has emerged for tertiary protection in rehabilitation standards. Methodology: In this study, we aimed to develop two scales that can provide ideas about rehabilitation standards by determining the awareness of individuals with or without alcohol and substance use disorders. By so, experts in the field can have information about the risk sta...

However, there is a lack of inexpensive and efficient brain evaluation and screening systems. As a result, a considerable fraction of patients with neurocognitive or psychobehavioral predicaments either do not get timely diagnosed or fail to receive personalized treatment plans. This is especially true in the elderly populations, wherein only 16% of seniors say they receive regular cognitive evaluations. Therefore, there is a great need for development of an optimized clinical brain screening workflow methodology like what is already in existence for prostate and breast exams. Such a methodology should be designed to facilitate objective early detection and cost-effective treatment of such disorders. In this paper we have reviewed the existing clinical protocols, recent technological advances and suggested reliable clinical workflows for brain screening. Such protocols range from ...
