It was discovered that the translation of some terms or phrases were inadequately rendered in French due to the problem of creating a suitably Africanized French stylistically, semantically, and pragmatically equivalent to its Anglophone counterpart. Hence, the problems encountered and identified were the peculiarity of Nigerian English, aspectual problems and non-uniformity in the orthography of Nigerian Pidgin and of course the existence of regionalized and africanized terms or Africanisms which have not found their ways into the dictionaries.

The discussion is based on a feminist’s perspective of a masculine discourse on gender. The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary (2000), defines the word “woman” as a general term for any “adult female human being”. The women in Festus Iyayi’s writings therefore consist of single girls, married and unmarried women, women separated from their husbands, and women of different backgrounds and classes.

The novel offers a fundamental critique of African democracy and the contemporary politics in Africa. The Republic of Louma is an imaginary country that show-cases electoral crises in an imaginary contemporary continent. The plot about a female dictator has a strong feminist inclination. The feminisation of presidential elections is a caricature of the dictatorial tendencies of African leaders. The themes discussed are true to contemporary political events in Africa as well as other parts of the world. The presentation reveals a lucid picture of feminine dictatorial politics.

To effectively tackle these challenges, the approach taken is that of a feminist translation because Mété-Nguemeu is a feminist writer. The grammatical differences between the two languages are major sources of challenge in translating Mété-Nguemeu's feminist discourse. The peculiarity of the African women's experiences is easily understood and immediately translated from, not only, an empathized perspective as a woman, but also as an African feminist translator in particular. A feminist translator translates better a feminist novel or a feminist author.
