Swintonia floribunda showed many interesting biological activities such as antitumor effect against breast and pancreatic cancers, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities. From the stem barks of Swintonia floribunda Griff. (Anacardiaceae) collected in Dong Nai province, three epoxylignans: pinoresinol (1), syringaresinol (2), epipinoresinol (3), together with three other compounds: n-heptacosyl trans-ferulate (4), methyl orsellinate (5), and friedelin (6) have been isolated from the EtOAc-soluble extract. The chemical structure of these compounds were determined by 1D and 2D NMR spectra and comparison with published data. These compounds were first reported in Swintonia floribunda

Carbohydrate Research, 2009

Some 2-amino-4,6-diarylpyrimidines 2 have been prepared from substituted benzylideneacetophenones... more Some 2-amino-4,6-diarylpyrimidines 2 have been prepared from substituted benzylideneacetophenones and guanidine hydrochloride in the presence of alkali by conventional heating in alcoholic medium and microwave heating in solvent-free conditions. N-(2,3,4,6-Tetra-O-acetyl-b-D-glucopyranosyl)-N 0 -(4 0 ,6 0diarylpyrimidin-2 0 -yl)thioureas 4 have been synthesized by reaction of per-O-acetylated glucopyranosyl isothiocyanate 1 and substituted 2-amino-4,6-diarylpyrimidines 2. Two different methods have been used, namely, refluxing in anhydrous dioxane and solvent-free microwave-assisted coupling. The second procedure afforded higher yields in much shorter reaction times. The compounds 2 and 4 were tested for their antibacterial and antifungal activities in vitro against Staphylococcus epidermidis, Enterobacter aerogenes and Candida albicans by disc diffusion method.

Research paper thumbnail of Appendices for Robusta Coffee Rejuvenation in Viet Nam Technical Report

This report covers the Technical aspects of the Collaborative Study of Coffee Rejuvenation Strate... more This report covers the Technical aspects of the Collaborative Study of Coffee Rejuvenation Strategies in Viet Nam. A complementary report prepared by IPSARD and WASI covers the Economic and Socio-economic aspects of the three Alternative Rejuvenation strategies that are recommended and agronomically viable. Here are the relevant appendices.

The report includes an extensive review of the problems associated with replanting of coffee around the world and in Viet Nam, where nematodes are the primary cause of replanting failures. Issues clearly identified in field visits in Viet Nam and extensive discussions are summarised and a detailed analysis of the agronomic/cultural practise for management of coffee nematode is presented and conclusions are given.

Alternative coffee rejuvenation strategies pros and cons are recommended based on the existing local and world knowledge analyses on nematode management.

Necessary Technical support to accelerate and effectively ensure success of the Robusta coffee rejuvenation and replanting programme is clearly outlined in terms of people, technology/research, institutions and resources and key policy issues for attention are identified.

Recommendations, based on conclusions of the study for the future approaches, initiatives and actions needed to ensure success of the Robusta coffee rejuvenation and replanting programme in Viet Nam are summarised
