Household solid waste was collected from each household and classified into 10 physical categories and 83 subcategories. The average household solid waste generation rate was 283.10 and 287.46 g/cap/day as dry season and rainy season, respectively. The authors also analyzed the differences of waste generation by physical compositions associated with different factors, such as seasonal and daily variation. Results show that the significant average differences were found by the different seasons and by the different days in a week.

In this paper, we propose a novel method for predicting the current location of a mobile user and describe how the method can be used to facilitate paging process. Based on observation that most mobile users have mobility patterns that they follow in general, the proposed method discovers common

However, traditional methods to isolate asphaltene fractions, by adding 40 volumes in excess of low boiling point solvents such as pentane, hexane or heptane, can produce asphaltene fractions which are contaminated with a signi®cant amount of microcrystalline waxes (>C 40). The presence of these microcrystalline waxes in the asphaltene fractions has the potential to provide misleading and ambiguous results in modeling and treatment programs. The sub-surface phase behaviour of an asphaltene fraction will be quite dierent from that of a wax-contaminated asphaltene fraction. Similarly accurate modelling of wax drop-out requires information on pure wax fractions and not asphaltene-dominated fractions. Hence the goal of this paper is to describe a novel method for the preparation of wax-free asphaltene fractions. In addition, this method provides a quantitative subdivision of the wax fraction into pentane soluble and insoluble waxes which, when correlated with physical properties of crude oil such as viscosity, pour point, cloud point, etc., may help explain causes of wax deposition during production, transportation and storage of petroleum.

The empirical results of this paper show that there has been two-way causality between money supply growth and inflation, exchange rate and inflation, and money supply growth and exchange rate in Vietnam in the 1990s. Both the long run and short run results of this paper suggest that devaluation can be implemented to encourage exports and to improve current account balance and BOP, and also to reduce the real exchange rate appreciation in the short run.

In this paper, we describe the synthetic method, and characterization of the samples by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometry. The peptides were found to facilitate the formation of nanoparticles and partly protect the nanoparticles from oxidation.

Thus, we sought to determine the prevalence of and risk factors for surgical-site infections (SSIs) and to document antimicrobial use in surgical patients in a large healthcare facility in Vietnam. Methods: We conducted a point-prevalence survey of SSIs and antimicrobial use at Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, a 1,250-bed inpatient facility. All patients on the 11 surgical wards and 2 intensive care units who had surgery within 30 days before the survey date were included. Results: Of 391 surgical patients, 56 (14.3%) had an SSI. When we compared patients with and without SSIs, factors associated with infection included trauma (relative risk [RR], 2.65; 95% confidence interval [CI95], 1.60 to 4.37; P < .001), emergency surgery (RR, 2.74; CI95, 1.65 to 4.55; P < .001), and dirty wounds (RR, 3.77; CI95, 2.39 to 5.96; P < .001). The authors conducted a waste generation survey and a waste composition survey for 309 stalls/vendors in five markets by 17 business categories for 10 consecutive days. The waste generation rates by stall/vendor and by floor area were assessed in three waste categories: general waste, recyclable, and food residues. The general waste that would be sent to a landfill site was classified into 10 physical categories and 77 sub-categories. For general waste, food waste accounted for the largest part, followed by plastic and grass. By multiplying the waste generation rate by stall/vendor by the total number of stall/vendors in 23 markets, the authors estimated the total amounts of general waste, recyclable, food residue and total waste by business category. The total waste generated from market was 17.0 tons/day, of which 4.6 tons (27.1%) were collected by pig farmers for feeding livestock and 0.6 tons (3.6%) were sold to the recycling market. The composting potential accounted for 55.2% of total waste generation from the traditional market in Hue. The recycling potential accounted for 5.1%. The total disposal amount sent to the landfill site would be reduced from 69.2% to 8.8% of the total. The 95% confidence interval (CI) of total waste amount from 23 markets was also estimated using Monte Carlo simulation based on the mean and standard error of the waste generation rate. The range of 95% CI was 14.9-18.9 tons/day.

Many methods have been proposed that cope with this problem in an adequate extent. One of the good ideas is reducing properly the dimensionality of time-series data. In this paper, we propose a new method to reduce the dimensionality of high-dimensional time-series data. The method is simpler than existing ones based on the discrete Fourier transform and the discrete cosine transform. Furthermore, our dimensionality reduction may be executed in parallel. The method is used to time-series data matching problem and it decreases drastically the complexity of the corresponding algorithm. The method preserves planar geometric blocks and it is also applied to minimum bounding rectangles as well.
