The harvesting of onion crop is laborious work and requires huge amount of manpower and time. As a part of harvesting of onion, root and shoot has to be trimmed manually, this is a labour oriented process. One of the main reasons of low productivity is low level of mechanization and less technology utilizatio n. Machine for cutting root and shoot is not available in India and imported machines are expensive and an Indian farmer cannot afford such high price. Farmers incur financial loss because of non-availability of manpower. The purpose of the work is to " des ign and develop a prototype of onion root and shoot cutting machine " that can cut the root and shoot of onion once fed into the machine. This mechanization will also reduce unit cost of production through higher productivity. The major objective of this work is to reduce total expenses and dependency on labours and to increase the net revenue at an affordable price.

This paper focus on design, manufacturing, testing and optimizing operating parameters to improve the separation efficiency of linear flow steel shot separator used to separate spherical and non-spherical shots. Its use can further be extended for the separation of grains or other spherical products that require sorting based on shape. The shots are made to slide on inclined plane, so that they gain kinetic energy due to gravity. The spherical shots undergo rolling friction while the non-spherical shot will experience sliding friction. Spherical ones, left with higher energy, hence speed, when gets projected from a height will have longer trajectory and gets collected in a receptacle placed at a farther distance. Whereas the non-spherical shots, owing to their low speed are collected in a receptacle placed at relatively closer distance. It was observed that separation efficiency of 92.3% can be achieved by linear flow shot separator.

This paper presents the process of developing ergonomic students`desks through an integrated product team approach. Methodology. The design process used integrated product team approach. Numerous quality tools, customization techniques and strategic tools/techniques including: QFD, Ergonomics Principles, Kano Model, SCAMPER, Brainstorming, Pareto Principle, Cause-and-Effect Diagram and House of Quality were successfully applied. Also, Anthropometric measurements were used in making detailed designs. Findings. Various health problems from students who were using unergonomic furniture were well-identified. Finally, two improved designs were developed with the help of Solid Work-2016 software. Desk (Alternative-A) considered "Design for adjustability principle" which can accommodates 90% of all students (5th Female to 95th Male) percentile while Desk (Alternative-B) considered 50th percentile ("Design for average principle"). Conclusion. The two desks`designs were prepared with the help of actual data from three colleges. Verification, validation and evaluation process for desk`s designs and data were successfully done. This makes the designs to have practical validity. Therefore, implementation of these results will assist in reduction of Musculoskeletal Disorders problems, neck problems, back pain and pressure on hips. Ultimately, it's expected that the comfortability and satisfaction level to students will increase.
