Thus we tried to access prevalence of perceived stress and associated factors among hoteliers of Nepal. A hotel based quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study was done using a structured questionnaire cum interview schedule. The data was recorded in Microsoft Excel sheet, and was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 23. A descriptive analysis was done using mean, frequency, percentage and standard deviation. Bivariate analysis was done using Mann-whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis test as the data were non-normal. Significance level was observed at p-value less than 0.05. Mothers who have high perceived maternal role competence are able to make a successful transition to motherhood and gain mastery in their maternal role performance. This study aims to measure the perceived maternal role competence among mothers of infant. Methods: This study used a descriptive cross-sectional design. Simple random sampling was used to select 185 mothers of infants residing in Pokhara Sub- metropolitan City, Kaski, Nepal. Face to face interview was done for data collection. The data were coded and entered in MS Excel 2007 and an analysed in IBM SPSS version 20.0. Results: The mean score for perceived maternal role competence of respondents was 72.48±8.33. More than one quarter (26.5%) of respondents had a good level of perceived maternal role competence. There was a significant association between level of perceived maternal role competence and age of the mother (p<0.022), educational status (p=0.011), employment status (p=0.019) and readiness for pregnancy (p=0.022). There was a statistically significant correlation (p=<0.001) between satisfaction and self-efficacy subscale of parent sense of competence scale. Conclusion: The study concluded that influencing factors for perceived maternal role competence are mothers’ age, educational status, employment status and readiness for pregnancy. So, health care professionals should focus on family planning counselling and community awareness programs to raise women’s educational status and empowerment so that every pregnancy is planned and help mother to adapt successfully in transition to motherhood.

Gender discrimination is one of the major problems in the Nepalese society which adversely affects women health and development. So, the study aimed to find out sex preference among the pregnant women and how it affects reproductive behavior like use of family planning, abortion and fertility intension. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in Gynecology and Obstetrics outpatient department (OPD) of a Teaching Hospital in Pokhara. A total of 272 pregnant women were recruited through convenient sampling technique. Data collection was done by face to face interview. Data was entered in MS-Excel 2007 and analyzed in SPSS version-16. Chi-Square was used to find out the association between variables. Results: The mean age of the pregnant women were 25.51 years. Almost all the respondents were literate and 69(62.1%) of them were unemployed. More than half (57%) of the respondents had never used any method of family planning. Among 272 respondents 59(21.7%) of them had son preference which was significantly associated with age (p-value-0.028), educational level (p-value-0.000), and history of abortion (p-value-0.029). Conclusions: Despite of increasing education level of women still one third of the women had sex preferences. Sex preferences leads to decrease use of family planning, increased abortion rate and high parity which affects health of the women. It was observed that reproductive behavior is relatively affected by sex preferences.

As a preventive measure, Nepal was put into lockdown from 24 March to 21 July, 2020 for the first wave of COVID-19 infection. Sudden lockdown prompted the widespread closure of educational institutions. This study aimed to assess the academic and social impact due to COVID-19 lockdown on undergraduate students. Method: A web based cross sectional study was conducted among 403 undergraduate students of Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS), Pokhara Nepal using the total enumeration method after the ethical approval from Institutional Review Committee (IRC), Manipal Teaching Hospital.
