In Bangladesh, people with mental health issues typically delay contacting health professionals because they rely on traditional or religious healers. Moreover, the situation is exacerbated by a lack of awareness, social stigma and negative perception from families and the community towards sufferers of mental health issues. Therefore, this paper investigates the social perception and stigmatisation of mental health patients and their caregivers in Khulna city of Bangladesh. Methods: Data were collected from university students who had concurring mental health issues and from their closest caregivers who had in-depth knowledge and willingness to take care for the patients. Following the criteria for data collection, eight (8) mental health patients and five (5) caregivers were purposively select...

This study was designed to assess the mental health of middle-income people and its association with the socioeconomic crises that emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh. A semi-structured interview schedule in Bangla was administered to conveniently collect the data from 150 participants based on certain specifications. Findings suggest that COVID-19 status, household debt, and depression were significantly associated with mental stress among middle-income people. Depression, on the other hand, was substantially affected by socio-demographic and socioeconomic status as well as their hygiene and government support during the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, an individual’s anxiety was determined by income during the COVID-19 pandemic, quarantine status, personal hygiene, and socio-demographic factors. To reduce the pandemic-induced stress, depression, and anxiety, the government should provide financial assistance through social safety net and create alternative livelihood opportunities using existing resources. Besides, policymakers should implement community awareness programs about the risk of COVID-19 to minimize both risk of infection and mental health stress.

Therefore, by conducting a discrete choice experiment on 115 households out of a systematically selected 161 households, this study aims to estimate the willingness to pay (WTP) for an improved safe drinking water supply by considering the trade-offs made by urban dwellers for the proposed improvements to an existing water supply system in the Khulna City Corporation (KCC) area of Bangladesh. The primary results show that the total WTP of households is estimated at BDT 243.6 (≈US$ 2.87) per month, implying that respondents are ready to pay for improvements to the water supply attributes of water quality, regularity of supply, water pressure in taps, and filtering. A revenue stream for an improved water supply system is also being developed, suggesting that investment...

Review of Literature Different authors across the globe have shown financial performance of banks based on different methods and techniques of which financial ratio analysis, trend analysis, CAMEL rating, are the most common tools used. Banks play an important role in the economic development of every state [4]. This study is intended to measure the performance of selected private sector banks (five), listed on both the Dhaka Stock Exchange and Chittagong Stock Exchange, in Bangladesh through widespread use of financial ratios that mainly indicate the adequacy of the risk based capital, credit growth, credit concentration, non-performing loan position, liquidity gap analysis, liquidity ratio, return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), net interest margin (NIM), etc. Elizabeth and Greg (2004) also discuss about three indicators namely, internalbased performance measured by Return on Assets, market-based performance measured by Tobin's Q model (Price/Book ratio) and Economic-asked performance measured by economic value add has been used to measure financial performance of the some financial institution of Australia [5]. CAMELS' rating is a managerial tool to identify those banking companies that are having problems and involve increased supervision [6]. Under this rating system, banking companies are assigned two sets of ratings-(i) performance ratings, and (ii) an overall composite rating. On the other hand authors examine that in case of the band 'capital adequacy', IFIC Bank's, capital adequacy ratio and leverage ratio show better performance than EXIM Bank but in respect of return on equity and net worth protection, IFIC shows not as good as performance than the other [7]. Chowdhury (2002) analyses that the performance of banks requires knowledge about the profitability and the relationships between variables like market size, bank's risk and bank's market size with profitability [8]. The study concluded that the banking industry in Bangladesh is experiencing major transition for the last two decades. Chien

This study investigated the relationship between health literacy and body mass index (BMI) among the suburban adult population in the southwestern region of Bangladesh. Data were collected from 196 random participants. Inferential statistics and multinomial logistic regression were used to analyze the data. The BMI was calculated using the World Health Organization standard, and a health literacy index was constructed using the principal component analysis. Results obtained from the relative risk ratio suggested that a higher level of health literacy directly correlates with a reduction of the obesity, overweight, and underweight categories. The health literacy indicators, including healthy behavior (0.38, p<0.01), nutrition knowledge (0.47, p<0.10), and preventive care knowledge (0.47, p<0.05), significantly influenced BMI. The result shows that there is significant mean difference between the monthly household income generations by rural non-farm activities and farm activities which is statistically significant at 1% level. The household income generation from non-farm activities is higher than income generating from farm activities by BDT 5200. After that, regression model is used to show the influence of different factors that affect both farm and non-farm activities. From the result, it is seen that household size, occupation type, working experience and working hour are showing statistically significant relationship with non-farm and farm activities.

This study is completely secondary data-based and data have been collected from the website of the World Bank (WB). For analysis, econometric model namely, pooled regression, fixed effect and random effect models have been utilised along with Hausman test and extension of the model in this study. In analysis, governance indicators namely control of corruption, government effectiveness, voice and accountability, regulatory quality and rule of law are explanatory variables while macroeconomic indicators like, foreign direct investment (FDI), trade openness, remittance, capital formation, export and import are considered as independent variables. Gross domestic product (GDP) growth has been treated as dependent variable. The result shows that the change in government effectiveness and rule of law have positive impact on economic growth, where as, positive change in control of corruption and regulatory quality lead to negative change in economic growth. Furthermore, FDI and export are positively and import is negatively related to the economic growth of South Asian countries.

The main purpose of this paper is to find out the disbursement and recovery performance of rural credit of Rupali Bank Limited (RBL) in different sectors namely agriculture and industry. To attain the objective, mean difference t-test and econometric model are analyzed. For analysis, whole population is taken into account in which one group is loan taker of business sector and other is agricultural sector. The finding of t-test shows that the recovery performance of the business sector is superior to agricultural sector or in other words the agriculture sector has more problems in loan repayment than business sector. The econometric model is used to analyze the recovery performance of the bank. The robust standard error is used to remove all peculiarities in data. From the analysis, it is found that the coefficients age and education are not statistically significant but the two variables namely business type and income level are statistically significant. Family size is close to significant which indicates that the higher income group, fewer family members and disbursement of loan in business sector are related to higher recovery performance. This study is a model based approach to find out the recovery performance in different sectors. Therefore, it can be helpful to the bankers and policy makers of banking and financial institutions to select the right borrowers for disbursing loan and get better recovery from these sectors.

This paper aims to imitate the sole story of consumption pattern and poverty situation of the rural poor of Bangladesh who tries to change their fate through microcredit. Multiple regression models are used as a tool of making out poverty gap result as well as the change in consumption level of the borrower due to microcredit. In this paper, microcredit positively and significantly influences consumption change but it increases poverty gap of the rural borrower.
