A combination of surgical as well as prosthetic therapy is most effective in treatment of the TMJ ankylosis. This paper presents a case of 23 year old female with a history of TMJ ankylosis and limited mouth opening for which condylectomy has been performed. The patient was later referred to Dept. of Prosthodontics for further prosthetic rehabilitation. Treatment plan included an indigenously designed adjustable and resilient prosthetic appliance which not only maintains the vertical dimension but also guides the patient in opening and closing movements without straining the muscle.

It presents at eruption of these teeth. One to four molars, and often also the incisors, could be affected. Since first recognized, the condition has been puzzling and interpreted as a distinct phenomenon unlike other enamel disturbances. Early diagnosis is essential since, rapid breakdown of tooth structure may occur, giving rise to acute symptoms and complicated treatment. The purpose of this article is to review MIH and illustrate its diagnosis and clinical management in young children. How to cite this article: Garg N, Jain AK, Saha S, Singh J. Where Operative Dentistry is required, this is now carried out in the most conservative manner with minimal destruction of tooth structure. This new approach to caries management, changes the emphasis from diagnosing carious lesions as cavities (and a repeating cycle of restorations), to one of diagnosing the oral ecological imbalance and effecting biological changes in the biofilm. The goal of MID is to stop the disease progress and then to restore lost tooth structure and function, maximizing the healing potential of the tooth. Use of these MI treatment protocols, can repair early lesions and improve patient understanding and compliance. This review article introduces some of the key concepts and practical aspects of Minimally Invasive Dentistry.

The increasing availability of genetic tests confers to the speciality of genetic counselling a f... more The increasing availability of genetic tests confers to the speciality of genetic counselling a fast growing place in medical practice. Genetic counselling provides the link between genetic technologies and patient care. It is a communication process which deals with the human problems associated with the occurrence, or the risk of occurrence, of a genetic disorder in a family. Recent dramatic advances in medical genetics have resulted in a comparable increase of interest in genetic counselling. These advances have included rapid growth in knowledge of the ways in which a large number of diseases are inherited, improvements in the ability to examine human chromosomes and detect chromosomal abnormalities, the ability to diagnose certain diseases in the second trimester of pregnancy, and the advent of screening programs for certain diseases in high risk populations.

The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of OW and OB among affluent school going adolescents in Bangalore, India, and identify its associated factors. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional and institutional study, adopting a multistage stratified cluster sampling procedure, was carried out on 1750 adolescents 12-15 years of age of both sexes from Bengaluru, India. Results: The prevalence of OW was 17.4% among boys and 17.0% among girls. Prevalence of OB was 7.4% in boys and 7% in girls. There was a higher prevalence of OW and OB in boys compared with girls, but difference was not significant. Junk food and chocolate eating habits had more prevalence of OB and OW than underweight indicating that the caloric intake is associated with an increase in body mass index (BMI). On assessing the relationship between caries and nutritional status, OW children had mean decayed missing filled surfaces (DMFS) of 1.57 ± 3.104 while obese children had a mean DMFS of 0.91 ± 1.702. The relation between BMI and DMFS was statistically significant. Conclusion: The increasing trend of the modern day epidemic of OW/OB in children calls for immediate action in both rural and urban areas to reduce the incidence through appropriate nutritional intervention programs involving school children, their parents, and school authorities.

Hence, such layers should be removed. It becomes more challenging when we approach the apical third of the root canal. Aim: The aim was to compare the efficacy of different irrigants including ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), EDTA along with ultrasonication, citric acid, and mixture of tetracycline isomer, an acid, and a detergent (MTAD) as final irrigants where sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) was used in each experimental group during root canal preparation with special emphasis on the apical third. Settings and Design: Forty-five human upper anterior teeth were selected and divided into one control group (group 1) and four experimental groups (group 2 to group 5), each containing nine teeth. All the four experimental groups were irrigated with 5.25% NaOCl solution during preparation, whereas test irrigants (5 mL) as the final solution used in each experimental group were 17% EDTA, 17% EDTA along with ultrasonication, 25% citric acid, and MTAD, respectively. The samples were prepared and observed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The photomicrographs were recorded and evaluated with a scoring system. Statistical Analysis Used: Data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test and Dunn's test (P = 0.05). Results: None of the combined irrigants was found completely effective. All the test irrigants including MTAD worked well in the middle and cervical third, whereas MTAD showed excellent results in the apical third as compared to the other groups.

The data were collected using the methods and standards recommended by the WHO for oral health surveys. Oral health status was assessed using the df-t index (number of decayed and filled teeth). Academic performance was assessed based on the marks obtained. The children were divided into three groups: Excellent, average, below average (as given by the school teachers). Comparison between categorical variables was performed using one-way ANOVA using the SPSS software package (version 12.0). The mean df-t of the excellent group was 1.56 ± 2.5, for average group it was 2.05 ± 2.8 and for the below average group it was 4.47 ± 2.7. The below average group showed high caries index compared to other groups. The relation between school performance and mean df-t was found to be statistically significant (p...

Prosthesis should be provided as soon as possible to raise the spirits and ease the mind of the affl icted. This case report presents the fabrication of custom-made silicone fi nger prosthesis and acrylic resin ocular prosthesis in an attempt to avoid costly procedures and provide best possible esthetic results. A high-quality esthetic prosthesis with passive function can be helpful to the patient since loss or congenital absence or malformation have both social and psychological impact on the patient.

The results revealed the mesiodistal crown dimensions of teeth of males to be more than that of the females. Further the ratio of the mesiodistal crown dimension of the maxillary lateral incisors to the maxillary central incisors was 80% in females and 78% in males. The total arch length in males was 117.77 mm in maxilla and 111.60 mm in mandible, while in females, the figures were 113.98 mm in maxilla and 107.10 mm in the mandible.
