Among others is the urgent need for feasible implementation of the integrated vehicle deregistration process, especially to kickstart the process for registered abandoned vehicles (approximately eight million units nationwide in 2018). In line with this aspiration, this study will explore the dynamics, rationale, and opportunity for public services to have a unified digitisation platform. This initiative will integrate networks of public (e.g.

It can be concluded that infrastructure can have a positive effect on FDI. It can also conclude that trade openness can cause FDI to escalate. Inflation can give negative results to FDI. Higher inflation may cause the return of FDI to be lower. Hence FDI drops. It can be said that there is a positive and negative link between corruption and FDI inflows. Market size can positively and significantly influence FDI. Therefore, the government should increase market size, infrastructure and trade openness but reduce inflation and corruption to increase FDI.

Research paper thumbnail of Gas Consumption as a Key for Low Carbon State and its Impact on Economic Growth in Malaysia: ARDL Approach

International Journal of Energy Economics and Policy

Thus, it is important to replace oil in generating economic activities and leading the country towards low carbon state. Despite the environmentally friendly energy, most previous studies did not study gas consumption. Therefore, this study investigates the effects of gas consumption and other selected macroeconomic determinants such as labour, capital, foreign direct investment, trade openness, and financial development on Malaysia's economic growth from 1980 to 2019. The Augmented Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach is employed, and the results show that gas consumption plays a vital role in boosting economic growth in the short and long run. Based on these findings, all economic sectors should consume more natural gas instead of oil, including industries and transportation. This move can conserve the environment and support clean energy for sustainable development....

FDI inflows in ASEAN+3 countries have dropped markedly, which may affect economic development in the region. Many previous studies have investigated a multitude of factors that can influence FDI, such as market size, inflation, trade openness, corruption, and inflation. Previous studies did not, however, consider environmental degradation as a potential factor. Besides corruption and inflation, imposing stringent environmental regulations, such as carbon pricing and taxes to reduce environmental degradation, might deter foreign investors from the country. This is due to heightened costs for foreign investors, which may cause FDI inflows to drop. To shed some light on the reality of this situation, this study examines whether environmental degradation can significantly affect foreign direct investment in the region. This study includes environmental degradation as a potential factor and employs t...

This study utilized structural approach to investigate changes in the market structure particularly the level of concentration and competition that contributed by several structural changes which take place in the dual banking system. According to structural approach, concentration plays an important role in examining the link between concentration and competition. Therefore, present paper utilized the structural approach to measure various concentration indexes to provide significant evidence on the changes in the market structure of Malaysian banking industry for the largest available data set of 1997-2013. Pearson correlation analysis was also used to examine the consistency of those various measures used in this study. The paper found evidence that structural changes have altered the market structure of the banking industry which comprises of Islamic and conventional banking system. The results also indicate that dual banking industry operates in the monopolistic competition structure. Therefore, concentration indexes can be used by authorities to decide on the optimal number of banks operating in the industry.

Research paper thumbnail of The Effects of Energy Consumption and National Output on CO2 Emissions: New Evidence from OIC Countries Using a Panel ARDL Analysis

Energy plays an important role in generating economic activities. On the other hand, it can have deleterious impacts on the environment as more carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions will be released. Most previous studies focused on total energy rather than types of energy such as oil and gas in investigating the effects of energy consumption on CO2 emissions. Therefore, this study investigates the effects of oil and gas consumption rather than total energy consumption on CO2 emissions in 20 Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries. The dynamic heterogeneous panel (panel autoregressive distributed lag model – panel ARDL) approach namely pooled mean group (PMG), mean group (MG), and dynamic fixed effect (DFE) were employed. The main results reveal that in the long run, overall national output contributes to higher environmental degradation. However, in the short run, overall national output does not affect CO...

Research paper thumbnail of The Effect of Economic Openness on Multifactor Productivity: Empirical Evidence from Selected Asian Countries*

Variation in demand, natural resource availability, and technological advancement within a countr... more Variation in demand, natural resource availability, and technological advancement within a country are the main reasons for necessitating export and import activities between nations. Accordingly, this paper aims to analyze the effect of economic openness on Multifactor Productivity (MFP) in selected Asian countries (Vietnam, Thailand, The Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, and Singapore) based on data for the period 1990–2018. The analysis conducted in the study employed the panel ARDL approach based on the estimation by Pooled Mean Group (PMG), Mean Group (MG), and Dynamic Fixed Effect (DFE). The Hausman test conducted indicates that the PMG estimation is better than that of MG and DFE since it has a higher variability value than the significance value. The results revealed that economic openness is able to elicit significant and positive effects on short-term and longterm MFP growth. In addition, the study established that other variable, such ...
