Struggling with the advancement of competition in furniture industry in recent years, local small medium enterprises in Jepara has difficulties in managing demand that cause an oversupply and undersupply condition which influenced directly to its production cost and indirectly to its competitive advantage in a global furniture market. This research aims to find the most suitable demand forecasting and aggregate planning that can give the optimum result to the company’s demand forecast and the production planning. Time series forecasting will be used in this research. For the aggregate planning method author compare level strategy, chase strategy, and linear programming strategy to find the optimum production cost. The result of this research shows that the most optimum demand forecast for the company is Winter’s Model, this method shows the smallest error among the others method. This method also can decrease the excess stock loss value by IDR 564,487,762. The result from ...

One of the important humanitarian aid of catastrophic event like disaster is healthcare distribution system. This study aims to find out an appropriate emergency medical service (EMS) model for developing country like Indonesia considering nature of low impact and high frequency disaster. The EMS has two famous reference model: Anglo American and Franco German with the difference in the flow of medical doctor, ambulance, medical equipment, and the use of medicine. We conduct a deductive assessment of those two reference model and create recommendation of suitable EMS model for developing countries like Indonesia. The disaster’s stakeholder such as ...

Landfill is no longer appropriate to maintain plastic waste based on the environmental impact that might be occurred for instance. However in developing countries such as Indonesia, although plastic recycling technology have been promoted by maintain waste bank policy for support community willingness to exchange their recyclable waste with certain monetary values, there is no guarantee that community will fully accept plastic recycling technology. This research aims to assess the performance of plastic recycling in environmental and social aspects as its integrated index. From that assessment, appropriate strategies in plastic recycling will be delivered in this research. Environmental aspects will be assessed by using life cycle assessment (LCA) through MiLCA software and selected by using data envelopment analysis (DEA). Social aspects will be analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative methodology such as observation, interview, secondary data, and questionnaires. Simulation and modelling will also developed by using agent-based modelling (ABM) to describe social dynamic of community in supporting waste bank policy. The appropriate system of plastic recycling will be promoted as expected results for this research.

The shifting paradigm of university from research and teaching university to entrepreneurial university has led to the development of infrastructure in university that focus on maintaining the spirit of entrepreneurship. Infrastructures such as technological or science park (Philpot et al., 2007) liaison office, technology transfer office, and business incubator (Etzkowitz, 2004) had been built and developed in several universities in Indonesia. The optimization of those infrastructures had been questioned to get practical implication and contribution in society through well developed and functioned technology in industry. There are needs to be described in the necessary of technology development through entrepreneurial university through the support of industrial collaboration. This study aims to propose several methodologies that appropriate for identifying the needs and interest whether from industry and university to achieve entrepreneurial university criteria. From pr...

It has a role to preserve the city environment. Number of visitors in Tahura made the Tahura need to have a good waste management system. Optimal waste management system can be achieved, if garbage collection and removal equipment work well, such is the place and garbage carts. Based on observation, the condition of the premises and garbage carts are less good. Therefore, it is needed to redesign the place and garbage carts through the whole process of product development. The study was conducted by identifying the needs of the janitor, Tahura management staff, and visitors. Identifications produce seven types of trash and five types garbage carts requirements, which will be the basis in developing the concept. The process of developing the concept of trash and garbage carts done using a combination tables and SCAMPER process. All concepts are selected by screenin...

An evaluation of contributing factors to the response time is necessary to guide decision-makers in keeping a high service level of emergency medical service.Design/methodology/approachThis research employed an agent-based modeling approach with input parameters from interviews with emergency medical service staff in Bandung city, Indonesia. The agent-based model is established to evaluate the relevant contribution of the factors to response time reduction using several scenarios.FindingsAccording to agent-based simulation, four factors contribute to the response time: the process of preparing crew and ambulance during the pandemic, coverage area, traffic density and crew respons...

The relevance of disaster awareness factors in transforming into practical action and decision in a disaster evacuation need to be examined to study the relevance of both phases in disaster.Design/methodology/approachThis research conducted a quantitative approach by studying questionnaires from 162 respondents collectively divided into five groups to examine the student disaster awareness factors randomly from those groups. The qualitative approach was implemented through the evacuation experiments that were conducted twice to analyze the disaster evacuation performance. The analysis for the relevance is conducted by comparing the...

Community and government have different perspectives and roles in conducting household waste mana... more Community and government have different perspectives and roles in
conducting household waste management system. On one hand, the government
generates a policy to decrease waste to be sent to final disposal; on the other hand,
the community will accept that, and without community involvement, sometimes
the policy will not run well. Household waste management system policies focus on
delivering value of composting and recycling in community. One of the policies
is waste bank which lets the community turn their waste into money in the
form of savings like in a bank. Efforts from different household waste supply
chain parties such as government and communities must be coordinated. This
research aims to find the exact coordination between government and communities
in order to adopt household waste policies especially waste bank. This research
considers possibilities to produce policies by determining community needs previously (bottom-up technologies). Agent-based modeling presents three kinds of
community: the careless community (not willing to adopt waste management
technologies/policies even it is profitable for them), arguing community (not willing
to adopt waste management technologies/policies when it is not profitable for them),
and adapting community (willing to adopt waste management technologies/policies
whether it is profitable or not for them). The simulation shows that the number of
adapting communities is increasing; meanwhile the number of arguing communities
is decreasing. However, the number of careless communities is increasing in the
first half of simulation and starts decreasing in the second half of simulation.
According to this result, communities socially interact with and influence each
other because in the first half, the number of arguing communities was larger
than that of adapting communities, which affects the increasing number of careless
communities, and then in the second half, the number of adapting communities was
larger than that of arguing communities, which influence the decreasing number of careless communities. It also shows that the role of government to maintain policies
profitable for community is important.
