Research paper thumbnail of The INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ELECTRONICS & OIL: FROM THEORY TO APPLICATIONS Application of PQ Algorithm and Fuzzy Controller to a Multilevel Inverter as a shunt Active Power Filter

This article presents two methods for the compensation of harmonics generated by a nonlinear load... more This article presents two methods for the compensation of harmonics generated by a nonlinear load. The first is the P-Q algorithm method. The second is the controller by fuzzy logic. Both methods are applied to a shunt Active Power Filter (sAPF) based on a three-phase voltage converter at five levels NPC topology. In calculating the harmonic currents of reference, we use the algorithm P-Q and pulse generation, we use the intersective PWM. For flexibility and dynamics, we use fuzzy logic. The results give us clear that the rate of harmonic distortion issued by fuzzy controller is better than P-Q algorithm.

The objective of this paper is to improve the quality of the energy transfer from the power suppl... more The objective of this paper is to improve the quality of the energy transfer from the power supply to the load, and to reduce the harmful effects of the harmonic generated by non-linear loads. Harmonic pollution is a phenomenon which affects all electrical networks in industrial plants, offices and homes. No modern environment can escape this pollution which is caused by “Non-Linear” or “distorting” loads such as personal computers, servers, fluorescent tubes, air conditioning units, variable speed drives, arc lights, static rectifiers, microwave ovens, TVs, halogen lamps, etc.
In this paper, the problem of the degradation of the current in the installations electric is imposed, which ensues directly from the proliferation of the non-linear loads, to resolve it; a five levels inverter with Neutral Point Clamping (NPC) structure is used as Active Power Filter shunt (APFs). The compensation process is based on concept of P-Q Algorithm. It provides effective compensation for harmonics.

The first is an intelligent control technique, and the second is robust used for variable structure system. In fact the characteristics I-V and P–V of the photovoltaic generator depends on the solar irradiance and temperature. These climate changes cause the fluctuation of maximum power point; a maximum power point tracking technique (MPPT) is required to maximize the output power. For this we have adopted a control by fuzzy logic (FLC) famous for its stability and robustness. And a Siding Mode Control (SMC) widely used for variable structure system. The system comprises a photovoltaic panel (PV), a DC-DC converter, which is considered as an adaptation stage between the PV and the load. The modelling and simulation of the system is developed using MATLAB/Simulink. SMC technique provides a good tracking speed in fast changing irradiation and when the irradiation changes slowly or it is constant the panel power of FLC technique presents a much smoother signal with less fluctuations.

Firstly we presented the structure of the voltage inverter three-phase five-level NPC topology. After that we model the inverter and the inverter are controlled by different strategies and then we made a comparative study between the results given by different strategies.

This paper proposes a technique of intelligent control to track the maximum power point (MPPT) ... more This paper proposes a technique of intelligent control to track the maximum power point (MPPT) of a photovoltaic system . The PV system is non-linear and it is exposed to external perturbations like temperature and solar irradiation. Fuzzy logic control is known for its stability and robustness. FLC is adopted in this work for the improvement and optimization of control performance of a photovoltaic system. Another technique called perturb and observe (P & O) is studied and compared with the FLC technique. The PV system is constituted of a photovoltaic panel (PV), a DC-DC converter (Boost) and a battery like a load. The simulation results are developed in MATLAB / Simulink software. The results show that the controller based on fuzzy logic is better and faster than the conventional controller perturb and observe (P & O) and gives a good maximum power of a photovoltaic generator under different changes of weather conditions

First, the modelling of the inverter and the machine is presented. Thereafter, a theoretical study of the harmonics elimination strategy is detailed; where the genetic algorithm (GA) for elimination purposes is used. After that, this strategy is validated by simulation. Finally, a behaviour of the induction machine controlled with this inverter is presented.
