The major objective of this study is to investigate the effects of dysfunctional family on adolescents in New Nyanya area of Nasarawa. The specific objectives are to; examine the causes of family dysfunction in new Nyanya, to evaluate the effect of dysfunctional family on adolescent educational pursuit and to assess the kind of rebellion common among adolescent in New Nyanya area of Nasarawa state. A sample size of one hundred was adopted using Taro (1976) statistics for determining sample size, cluster sampling techniques was adopted, the study used a survey design and questionnaire instrument was used for data collection. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics. The study has the following as its findings: that insecurity, crime involvement, psychological trauma were the effects of dysfunctional families in New Nyanya. It also concluded that alcoholism, marital instability and poverty were the causes of dysfunctional families New Nyanya area of Nasarawa State. Thus, the implication of dysfunctional families on adolescents is poor academic achievement, also, adolescent rebellious characteristics common among adolescents in New Nyanya area of Nasarawa state include insulting parents at home and public places. The study recommends; that rehabilitation centres should be established and be well funded by the state and federal government where families can take their children to be rehabilitated and counseled. Adult section should also be included where parents can be counseled when the need arise. The judicial system or court should intensify effort in resolving marital crisis than encourage separation of spouses. Parent, guardian and family relations should report abusive children to the appropriate authority as soon as they discovered rebellious tendencies in their adolescent children.
