Vegetation samplings were carried out according to the Braun-Blanquet approach. The relevés were stored in the TURBOVEG database management program. Hierarchical classification was carried out in PC-ORD program with Ward’s method and Euclidean distance as a resemblance measure. The diagnostic species were identified by a fidelity measure in the JUICE program. The results of the classification were visualized by ordination techniques in the CANOCO package by using principal component analysis. In conclusion, except for the degraded forest community, all the 7 steppe and 1 scrub plant communities studied were identified and described as new associations. Also, a syntaxonomical scheme for the vegetation of Sivrihisar Mountains was suggested.

This area is within the borders of Irano-Turanian phytogeographic region and also in A4 square according to the grid system applied for the Flora of Turkey by Davis. About 500 plant samples were collected from the area between July 2007-June 2009. 268 taxa belonging to 149 genera in 37 families were determined. The richest family and the richest genus of the research area are Asteraceae and Alyssum respectively. 37 taxa of the collected plants were endemic and its ratio to total is 13.8%. The distribution of species according to the phytogeographical regions is as follows; Irano-Turanian 17.2%, Mediterranean and East Mediterranean 5.2%, Euro-Siberian and Euxine 4.12%, widespread or unknown 73.41%.

As a result six associations were defined, and three of them are new associations in the literature. The associations and their higher units are given as follows:

Analysis of the vegetation has been conducted by using Braun-Blanquet method. Structures and limits of the vegetation mosaic of present associations were determined by Geographic information system (GIS) and Satellite remote sensing data. As a result of this study, the following were found: a new alliance belonging to halophytic vegetation, Halothamno hierochunticae-Salsolion incanescentis and two new associations, Halothamno hierochunticae-Salsoletum incanescentis and Hymenolobo procumbentis-Aeluropetum lagopoidis and two new associations belonging to ruderal vegetation, Frankenio pulverulentae-Chenopodietum albi and Prosopo farctae-Alhagietum manniferae.

It is an important deciduous angiosperm with edible fruits and valuable wood. It has a wide distribution from east Black sea to Marmara and Aegean Regions. Because of its wide distribution, C. sativa grows on different ecological, geological, climatic and edaphic condition and these results in different associations with different companion species evaluated in different upper units. In this paper, the status of Turkish C. sativa forests, their ecological and syntaxonomical characteristics were overviewed. The C. sativa associations described so far and a new one from Black Sea region were grouped in various alliances of two distinct classes, Querco-Fagetea and Quercetea pubescentis.

In this study, preforest communities characterized by the species Olea europaea L., Ceratonia siliqua L., Quercus aucheri Jaub. & Spach, and mainly Pinus brutia Ten. were determined. The red pine, a relic of Tethys, has a wide distribution in the thermo-and eumediterranean zones in Turkey. Outside Turkey, it extends to Syria,
