Major actors in the world stage are rushing to make sense of the Arctic region as a consequence o... more Major actors in the world stage are rushing to make sense of the Arctic region as a consequence of increasing accessibility, and to monetize the regions with an expectation of great riches. Anticipation about transport-shortcuts are immerging as means for efficiency and monetizing measures. The establishment of maritime security in the regions is now a reality by federations and states that historically had had a stake in the region. Some use civilian organizations, others military or a combination. Some are based on local participation, others as state affairs. This paper as a desktop assignment summons practices in some areas, suggesting problems in pure military-based built-ups as an obstacle for the local participation, assuming that participation in military organizations are not a tradition embedded in the local population or indigenous peoples. Secondly, the paper deals with the emergence of a maritime security organisation in Greenland. Thirdly, a revisiting based on the people who inhabit the area(s) is suggested to be necessary, and according to the known and experienced best practises in maritime security so far.
