espanolThis work addresses the relationship between notarial institution and Catalan language in ... more espanolThis work addresses the relationship between notarial institution and Catalan language in the early contemporary times, both as regards the use of Catalan in the documentation generated by notaries as regards the type of language and models used. Language uses of notaries in modern Catalonia have been little studied, especially because since the second half of the 19th century Spanish became the exclusive language of notarial documents; this has led to disseminate misconceptions about the linguistic behavior of notaries. But when sources are examined and assesses the impact of its activities, you can understand the importance of notaries at a key moment of the linguistic history in last centuries, and the role played in the preservation of a linguistic heritage of extraordinary value. The aim of this paper is to explain the work that has been carried out in the Oficines Lexicogràf... more The aim of this paper is to explain the work that has been carried out in the Oficines Lexicogràfiques to regularize the treatment of verbal pronominality in the Diccionari de la llengua catalana of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (DIEC) and to show the result that the second edition of this dictionary, published in April of 2007, reflects. It is well known that the DIEC is not a dictionary started from scratch, but it is based on the Diccionari general de la llengua catalana of Pompeu Fabra (DGLC). The first and second editions of the DIEC represent an updating of the DGLC, not only regarding nomenclature and definitions but also regarding the revision and the systematization of some lexicographic treatments, as in the case of the treatment of verbal pronominality. Our exposition is divided into five sections:-First, we will briefly present the treatment of verbal pronominality in the DGLC and in the first edition of the DIEC (DIEC1).-Then, we are going to analyze which type of...

Aquesta tesi se centra en l’edicio i l’estudi de la Gramatica catalana de Pau Cardellach i Busque... more Aquesta tesi se centra en l’edicio i l’estudi de la Gramatica catalana de Pau Cardellach i Busquets (1814-1879), una obra inedita de la qual nomes existeix una copia, manuscrita, avui dipositada a la Universitat de Girona. La gramatica de Cardellach, nomes coneguda fins ara per referencies indirectes, es una obra original que exemplifica una perspectiva davant la llengua catalana diferent de les que coneixiem fins ara en el segle XIX. El seu estudi contribueix a precisar millor el proces, tarda, de codificacio gramatical de la llengua catalana i enriqueix la historia de la filologia al nostre pais. El treball necessari de contextualitzacio de l’obra ha exigit tambe un estudi exhaustiu del seu autor i de les circumstancies en que va produir la gramatica. The goal of this paper is to give an explanation of the meaning of nominal infinitives. We assume... more The goal of this paper is to give an explanation of the meaning of nominal infinitives. We assume that the regular meaning of nominal infinitives in Catalan is what is called manner reading. We argue that the manner reading is due to a particular Lexical Conceptual Structure (LCS) related to the phrases headed by a nominal infinitive. This LCS is a complex structure generated by means of a semantic rule of lexical extension linked to the morphological process of the nominalization of the verbal root.

Delcor (1919-1992) is responsible for a translation of the Book of Daniel, which is the only Cata... more Delcor (1919-1992) is responsible for a translation of the Book of Daniel, which is the only Catalan version of a book of the Bible produced by a North Catalan author to be included in Fundacio Biblica Catalana’s 1968 Bible. This unique circumstance was the inspiration to recover this translation and publish it in a scientific edition collated with the original texts from which Delcor worked. The introduction situates this singular work in the context of the long history of biblical translations in Catalan and offers an exegetical approach to this work that tradition has transmitted in three languages of the ancient world: Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. English equivalents of all of the texts have been added as a further point of comparison.
