Determinar la participación del polimorfismo inserción/deleción (I/D) del gen ACE en el desarroll... more Determinar la participación del polimorfismo inserción/deleción (I/D) del gen ACE en el desarrollo de retinopatía diabética (RD) en mexicanos del Occidente de México. Este es un estudio de casos y controles en el que se incluyeron un total de 242 participantes. La genotipificación se realizó por PCR de punto final seguido de electroforesis en geles de poliacrilamida y tinción con nitrato de plata. Los resultados se analizaron con Microsoft Office Excel 19.0 y SPSS 15 y se considró significancia de p<0.05. El genotipo menos frecuente para el grupo de RD y diabéticos sin retinopatía (DM) fue II (0.273) y DD (0.133) respectivamente. El alelo menos frecuente para el grupo de RD, DM y sanos fue I (0.47), D (0.40) y D (0.496) respectivamente. La asociación entre el genotipo DD como factor de riesgo para desarrollar RD presentó una p=0.01, X2= 6.35, OR=3.25, IC95%=1.26-8.36. Imatinib, a BCR-ABL1 tyrosine kinase inhibitor, performs exceptionally well with minimal toxicity in CML chemotherapy. According to clinical trials, however, 20–30% of CML patients develop resistance to imatinib. Although the best studied resistance mechanisms are BCR-ABL1-dependent, P-glycoprotein (P-gp, a drug efflux transporter) may also contribute significantly. This study aimed to establish an imatinib-resistant human CML cell line, evaluate the role of P-gp in drug resistance, and assess the capacity of ketoconazole to reverse resistance by inhibiting P-gp. Information from insecurity and victimization surveys have a central role in formulating policies against insecurity. This paper presents the development and implementation of the Insecurity Perceiver application on Android. During the document, the architecture and technologies used to build the application are described. This app allows users to register their perception of insecurity on a scale of 1 to 5 by adding their geographical position. With the users’ records, the Insecurity Perceiver shows a map with all the data generated, giving an overview of the danger perceived by users in a geographical area.

Este crecimiento poblacional demanda recursos materiales y energeticos de manera exponencial. Indicadores tales como la huella ecologica por ejemplo, permiten tener un parametro de comparacion acerca del impacto que nuestro ritmo actual de consumo de recursos representa para el planeta. Por ejemplo, si las condiciones o ritmo de consumo se mantienen como hasta ahora, seran necesarios decenas de planetas tierra (desde un punto de vista conservador) para lograr cubrir la demanda humana. Es imposible o mejor dicho insostenible el patron actual de consum o de recursos.

Accumulative roll bonding (ARB) is a severe plastic deformation (SPD) technique that has been ext... more Accumulative roll bonding (ARB) is a severe plastic deformation (SPD) technique that has been extensively used in a wide range of metals to improve their mechanical properties. In particular, ARB processed materials display an increase in both yield and ultimate tensile strength, since the SPD processing induces a remarkable grain refinement. In precipitationhardened alloys, such as aluminum 7075, this leads to a synergistic effect which further enhances strength. Although the reported results are promising for high-strength applications, thermal stability of the microstructure after processing remains an open question. In this paper, we present an investigation of the thermal stability of the texture, microstructure, and mechanical properties of Al-7075 samples processed by ARB to an equivalent Von Mises strain of 240%. After processing, yield and tensile strength displayed improvements of 30% and 20% respectively over the T6 condition. Crystallographic texture was found to depart from the rotated cube component to Dillamore/Taylor and Goss components. Several annealing heat treatments ranging from 373 to 673 K (100e400 C) were carried out and it was found that the improved mechanical properties are stable up to 423 K (150 C). The texture was found to slowly revert to a rotated cube with increasing temperature. The results are discussed in terms of the combination of strength and formability as calculated by the Lankford parameter using the visco-plastic self-consistent code (VPSC).

However, little is known about the maternal, placental, and neonatal OS status. Objective. To analyze the relation between prepregnancy obesity and the expression of OS markers and antioxidant capacity in the fetomaternal unit and their association with dietary intake. Methods. This cross-sectional study included 33 women with singleton, noncomplicated pregnancies. Two groups were formed: women with prepregnancy body mass index (pBMI) within normal range (18.5-24.9 kg/m2, n = 18) and women with pBMI ≥ 30 kg/m2, suggestive of obesity (n = 15). Dietary and clinical information was obtained by questionnaire and from clinical records. Total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration were measured on maternal and cord serum by colorimetric techniques, and placental expression of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPx4) was measured by immunohistochemistry. The Arbona system, as it came to be known, although it provided health care professionals on the island with multiple educational experiences, presented substantial costs for the government. In the early 1990's a program of privatization known as "La Reforma" was implemented with the ultimate goal of providing a universal coverage system for the poor and the needy. At present this program has brought other issues regarding the quality of medical services and loss of academic centers. This is a preliminary report that analyzes various aspects of both systems through the search and analysis of background resources and literature, interviews, and physician/patient satisfaction surveys (on working conditions and quality of services). The main purpose of this report is to create a model that proves to be efficient and coherent with the island's idiosyncrasies.

However, estrogeninduced cell proliferation in the uterus and mammary gland increases the risk for cancer in these organs. The lower incidence of mammary cancer in Asian women than in western women has been attributed to high intake of soy isoflavones, including genistein. Our previous work in the prepubertal rat uterus model showed that genistein (0.5 mg/kg body weight subcutaneously) caused an estradiol-like hypertrophy in myometrial and uterine luminal epithelial cells and an increase in RNA content in luminal epithelium; however, it did not induce cell proliferation, uterine eosinophilia, or endometrial edema. The present study investigated, in the same animal model, the effect of genistein administration (0.5 mg/kg body weight subcutaneously) before treatment with estradiol-17b (0.33 mg/kg body weight subcutaneously) on uterine responses that were not induced by genistein. Pretreatment with this phytoestrogen completely inhibited estradiol-induced mitoses in uterine luminal epithelium, endometrial stroma, and myometrium and partially inhibited estradiol-induced uterine eosinophilia and endometrial edema. These findings indicate that genistein protects against estrogen-induced cell proliferation in the uterus and suggest that future studies should investigate the possibility of using this agent to decrease the risk for uterine cancer after hormone replacement therapy in climacteric women.
