Furthermore, the influence evaluation of the different coal consumption on the coal-fired power plants in terms of power output and thermal efficiency improvements. As well, this study focuses on the effect of different feedwater heaters' numbers which caused the highest exergy destruction of the coal-fired power plants. For different values of the coal consumption, a parametric study was conducted to determine the efficiency of the coal-fired power plant. The results show that, when the coal consumption increases the power output will increases too. The slight decreases in the efficiencies are due to the small differences in how the mass flow rates of different streams increase. The exergy destruction was increased by about 16% when the consumption of fuel increases by 40 kg/s. It was observed that operating the coal-fired power plant at high coal consumption leads to...

A common method by Tarleton and Wakeman was used to select the general treatment philosophy, The implementation of this study was carried out on three stages, water sample analysis, simulates the proposed preliminary design and detailed engineering designing for the first stage, a sample of waste water was brought from Al-Kut Gas Filling Company - maintenance section and tested for settling, aeration, and filtration. The experiments showed that the most of sediments were insoluble but rather than suspended in water and can be removed by settling. Furthermore, aeration test showed that concentrated Thiophene odor in water was removed at 50 C of water with diffused air bubbling. On the other hand, filtration of using 10 Micron filter paper was achieved to eliminat...

Research paper thumbnail of Effect of web opening diameter on performance and failure mode of CFRP repaired RC beams

The study highlights the effect of the opening diameter on CFRP repair effectiveness by examining the effect on the ultimate load capacity, deflection, steel strain, CFRP laminate strain and failure modes. In the experimental programme, a total of four beams were used inclusive of one solid beam used as a control beam. The other three beams were designed with different opening diameters and were exposed to damage at the pre-repair stage, up to their ultimate capacity. Damaged beams were repaired using externally bonded CFRP laminate around the openings. The results concluded that the CFRP laminate repair system was effective regardless of the web opening diameter. It was found that the increase in the opening diameter resulted in a higher deflection as well as higher strain values for the mid-span reinforcement and shear stirrups. The CFRP repaired beams behaviour transformed from brittle at the pre-repair stage to ductile at the post-repair stage. The failure mode of the CFRP repaired beams with a smaller opening diameter changed from shear failure to flexural failure, while the larger opening diameter beams failure mode was governed by CFRP deboning at the shear zone.

It is also called carbon graphite and graphite fibre. These types of fibre contain a large number of carbon filament sets. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of carbon fibre on the resistance of concrete to fires that could occur in concrete structural elements. This study used two percentages of carbon fibre that were added to concrete mixes using 1% and 2% of cement. Three mixes were made: normal concrete (NC), 1% carbon fibre concrete (1% CFC) and 2% carbon fibre concrete (2% CFC). Six tests were conducted to evaluate the performance of the concrete mixes: the slump test, the compressive strength test (before and after exposure to fire), the flexural strength test, the thermal conductivity test and the rebound hammer test. The test results showed that 1% CFC exhibited higher compressive strength when subjected to fire and high temperatures compared to the other mixes. Moreover, the addition of 2% of carbon fibre reduced the compressive strength to an even lower level than that of the normal concrete mix.

To achieve this objective, (1) we measured core permeability of a couple of Diyab cores with and without fractures, (2) we analyzed the pressure fall-off data from a Diagnostic Fracture Injection Test (DFIT) to determine in-situ matrix permeability for use in reservoir evaluation, modeling, and forecasting reservoir performance, and (3) we determined the effective permeability (that is, combined permeability of matrix and microfractures) of a Diyab stimulated well using rate transient analysis (RTA). Furthermore, we put together both analytical and numerical models for single-phase and two-phase flows in support of the interpretation of the field pressure falloff DFIT data, and the dat...

In this paper, exergy analysis method is theoretically studied and modeled, and the exergy matrix equation is established. The exergy analysis method based on the second law of thermodynamics is studied and modeled, and the exergy matrix equation is derived. The main contents include: the overall analysis and partial quantitative analysis of the thermal system of the unit from the perspective of thermal equilibrium analysis, the exergy analysis of the thermal system under variable operating conditions from the perspective of exergy analysis, to find out the system's defects and deficiencies. Analyze the exergy loss distribution rules and causes of thermal systems, find the weak links in the system, and make scientific explanations for various calculation indicators.

Phase behavior, interfacial tension (IFT), contact angle, spontaneous imbibition, and ζ-potential experiments were performed. The experimental work flow included a phase-behavior study followed by IFT, contact-angle measurements, spontaneous-imbibition measurements, and ζ-potential measurements at varying salinities and surfactant concentrations. Contact-angle-measurement results indicated that surfactant solutions, in addition to lowering IFT, tend to change the core wettability from oil-wet or neutral-wet to more water-wet. Furthermore, the best results were achieved by adding an anionic surfactant. Moreover, spontaneous imbibition and ζ-potential measurements provided additional supporting data that diluted seawater (DSW), in a dilute anionic or nonionic surfactant solution, alter...

Fillers like kaolin, limestone, metakaolin and fly ash pozzolans are used by weight to prepare 17 different mixtures of mortar. In addition, four concrete mixes were made to study the effect of filler on shrinkage concrete mixes. From the series of experiments conducted, it has been found that 20% replacement of sand with limestone produces an enhanced strength and stability of the mix with low water absorption compared to the same water to powder ratio in the early stages. The combination of kaolin, primarily enhance the stability of mixture and fly ash enhance the rheology characteristics and hence the compressive strength. The replacement of 10% meta-kaolin provides a very high strength improvement compared to reference mix minimizing water absorption. The use of powders gave good workability and strength and thus would reduce of the use chemical admixtures and cement and consequently reduce the cost. The concrete mixes with fly ash and limestone powders gave better hardened properties with low cost compared to the reference mix.
