Aims: The primary objective of our study was to evaluate and assess the control of dyslipidemia in diabetes mellitus. The importance of the study was that the lipids disorders affect approximately 14% of patients with diabetes mellitus whereas in non-diabetics the prevalence is approximately 6%. Settings and Design: A casecontrol and hospitalbased analytical study was conducted from January 2016 to November 2017 in Khartoum state. Methods: Two hundred Sudanese adult with T2DM were selected as test group and 100 apparently healthy volunteers as controls both groups were age and sex matched. Venus blood samples were after overnight fasting from all participants, the following parameters were surveyed: Total cholesterol (T.CH), Triglycerides (TG), High densi...

It causes multifactorial in etiology such as menstrual dysfunction, hyperandrogenism, hirsutism, insulin resistance (IR), dyslipidemia and obesity which increased risk of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. We know that if patients with PCOS are screened for these diseases, many long-term complications can be prevented. Objective: The present study was designed to assess serum gonadotropin hromones [luteinizing hormone (LH), Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)] and insulin in PCOS Sudanese women and to compare them with healthy women as controls. Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive, analytic, crosssectional and hospital-based study, included Sudanese women with PCOS live in KhartoumStateSudan, in period from March 2013 to May 2014. However, very limited data are available from Saudi Arabia, despite an increase in the incidence of disease. This study aimed to find out the possible association between diabetes duration and thyroid antibodies; antiThyroid Peroxidase (anti-TPO) & antiThyroglobulin (antiTG) and anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase (anti-GAD) in Saudi children with type 1DM. The study included 132 diabetics children selected from Najran area According to the duration of diabetes grouped into group 1: less than 2 years, group 2: 2 up to 5 years, group 3: 6 up to 10 years and group 4: more than 10 years. Blood levels of antiTPO, anti-TG and antiGAD antibodies were determined by ELISA and TSH using ELC whileHbA1c was measured using chromatography technique. The highest serum GAD antibodies values were for group 1 (diabetic...

Blood transfusions have reduced morbidity and mortality for patients with SCD, but it can lead to erythrocyte alloimmunization the main aim in this descriptive analytical study, we determine the frequency of Rh antigens (C, D, c, E, and e) among sickle cell patients as well as to determine the frequency of kell1 antigen which will be useful in blood transfusion. The study was conducted during approximately eight months, followed informed consent, a total of 160 venous blood samples were collected from sickle cell patients in to 2.5 ml EDTA containers .All samples were tested for Rh D antigen using the slide agglutination techniques, and the same samples tested for Rh C, c, E, e, and kell1 antigens by immunodifusion gel technique. The results obtained showed that, the c antigen was most common frequency (100%), followed by D antigen occurred (90%), e antigen was found to b...

Research paper thumbnail of Molecular Detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Tissues Showing Granulomatous Inflammation Without Demonstrable Acid-Fast Bacilli

Diagnostic Molecular Pathology, 2000

Early diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) is important for early medical intervention and prevention o... more Early diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) is important for early medical intervention and prevention of spread of the bacteria. It is not uncommon to observe granulomatous inflammation but without demonstrable acid-fast bacilli (AFB) on Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) staining in tissues sent for histologic examination, and the definitive diagnosis of TB cannot be made because no concurrent tissue is sent for TB culture. In this study, the authors explored the feasibility of using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for early detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues where a definite diagnosis of TB cannot be made. One hundred fifteen patients (131 paraffin blocks of biopsy specimens) with granulomatous inflammation but ZN-negative for AFB were studied. DNA was extracted from paraffin sections and amplified by PCR with the IS6110 primers (specific for the Mtb complex) and the specific 122-base pairs (bp) PCR product was detected by agarose gel electrophoresis. Sixty-eight of the 115 (59%) patients were TB-PCR positive, thus enabling definite diagnosis of TB in significant numbers of these patients in 3 days. The authors conclude that molecular diagnosis by PCR is useful for early detection of TB in histologic material where morphologic features are suggestive but not confirmatory because of negative staining for AFB.
