Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) is an additional pulse sequence that can be obtained in cases where infection is suspected to enhance the diagnostic ability of an MRI.

It is difficult to diagnose and treat, may take years to make the correct diagnosis, may leave sequelae and could even be fatal.

Closed treatment and manipulation to correct the sustained deformity were typically used. In the early 20th century, most treatment consisted of immobilization in hyperextension. The present study was conducted in the Department of Orthopaedics, from October 2011 to October 2013. 25 randomly selected cases admitted through hospital with unstable dorso-lumbar spinal fractures and dislocations in each group. All these patients were managed by posterior pedicle screw fixation. All cases were followed up for a minimum period of 1 year. In the percutaneous pedicle fixation group, 12 patients had excellent results, 10 patients had good results & 3 had fair outcome. In the conventional pedicle fixation group, 8 patients had excellent results, 12 patients had good results & 5 had fair outcome.

There was an increase in incidence of spinal cord injuries during summer and rainy season. All those cases of unstable dorsolumbar fractures were included in the study that fulfilled following criteria. In our series, most common type was wedge compression fractures, accounting for 56% of the cases. Next common type is burst fracture 44%.In percutaneous pedicle screw fixation group, wedge compression fracture 64% were operated, compared to 48% of conventional pedicle fixation group. Burst fractures, which constituted 36% was the in percutaneous pedicle fixation group compared to 52% of conventional pedicle fixation group. Most common type was wedge compression fracture.

The attendees included six invited local experts—four radiation oncologists, an interventional radiologist, and an orthopedic surgeon. The moderator, Jon Strasser, MD, a radiation oncologist, opened the meeting by explaining that its goal was to identify the barriers to managing vertebral compression fractures (VCFs) in cancer patients and discuss available treatment options. The focus would be on three topics: current treatment practice for spinal metastases; treatment goals in the presence of VCFs; and minimally invasive procedures for VCFs. Each topic is allocated a separate section of the following report of the discussion.

The aim of this study was epidemiologic evaluation of unintentional injury in north of Iran. Methods: In a prospective cross-sectional study between September 2005-July 2006 we studied data of 347 trauma patients aged 14 years and younger, including sex, age, trauma mechanism, transportation facility, anatomical sites of injury, severity of head injury according to GCS (Severe: 3-8, Moderate: 9-12, Mild: 13-15), injury severity score (ISS), and length of hospital stay (LOHS). SPSS 13 and independent t-test were used to analyze of data. Findings: Out of 3605 trauma patients, 353 were 14 years old or younger with a mean age (SD) of 7.6 (4.0); Male to female ratio about 2:1. Most of them (42.9%) were 1-5 years old. In patients younger than 1 year, falling was the most common (52.2%) mechanism of trauma while in other groups, traffic accidents were the leading cause of injury. About half of the patients were transported to hospital by their families or other people. About 77% of them suffered from head injury. Mean (SD) ISS was 4.3 (6.6), about 12% had severe injury and it was more than 25 in about 3%. Mean (SD) LOHS was 5.1 (8.9) days. Conclusion: Occurrence of falling and traffic accidents in children is remarkably high. Mainly traffic accidents are preventable. We suggest paying more attention to safety education in all levels of community.
