The present work reports on the development and the experimental results of the investigation wit... more The present work reports on the development and the experimental results of the investigation with a CO2 laser excited by a capacitive radio frequency discharge. In a gas mixture composed by carbon dioxide, nitrogen and helium, in the proportions of 1:10.2:11.5 respectively. The system has a gas closed network of pipe with 7.6 cm internal diameter and a length of 5.5 m. The system uses a roots pump for the gas circulation. The gas flow in the discharge chamber is parallel to the optical axis and it has an approximate speed of 75 m/s. The gas mixture is maintained at temperatures between 14 to 18 °C. The radio frequency source can deliver up to 5 kW rms. The discharge chamber has aluminum electrodes attached externally with ceramic to a boro-silicate tube of 2.5 cm of diameter. The electrodes are 0.5 cm width and a 10 cm long. The obtained discharge is traverse to the gas flow and to the optical axis of the resonator, which are parallels. Las ecuaciones empíricas de diseño obtenidas en el mencionado Ensayo de Caminos son de utilidad como modelos básicos en la guía de diseño actual, pero han sufrido ciertas modificaciones para que los resultados que proporcionan sean aplicables a otras regiones con características climáticas y de materiales empleados distintos a las presentes en la región donde se llevó a cabo el ensayo.
