Hong Kong's history as a British colony and its present status as a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China simultaneously haunt and animate this provocative discussion. Hong Kong's hybrid ontology characterizes its unique place in the world but also serves as a source of tension vis-à-vis China. Hong Kong art is highlighted as an ongoing site for cultural critique, struggle and resistance, and functions as a situated context to undo anodyne notions of nationalism and fabricate newly limned localized identifications with reflexive transnational imaginings. The transnational mobility of Hong Kong artists today is harnessed as a critical means to focus on the local and the particular.

Three technologies were adopted for monitoring realtime situation and providing visualized interface, including radio frequency identification, geographical information system, and global positioning system. A real-time vehicle routing planning with time windows model and an insertion heuristic method were used to formulate vehicles' scheduling and search the relative optimal solution, respectively. The system was implemented by means of Visual Basic .Net and Visual Earth. Numerical experiments were conducted with good results to show the feasibility of the system. Index Terms-RFID. Real time vehicle routing problem. Logistics. GIS. GPS.

This paper presents an innovative gateway technology. A gateway is physically composed of smart objects that are logically related to each other according to a shop-floor workflow configuration. Although smart objects are equipped with heterogeneous RFID devices, they are converted into standard web services using the concept of agents. The resulted agent-based smart objects (ASOs) are then centrally managed through a specially purposed smart objects Universal Description, Discovery and Integration registry (SO-UDDI) where facilities such as register, publish, find, bind and invoke are provided for ASOs. Through these facilities, smart objects can be deployed at a gateway in a ''Plug and Play'' fashion. Real-time data are collected by smart objects from the shop floor and processed by the corresponding gateway for further application in enterprise information systems (EISs). The proposed framework is demonstrated through a smart forklift gateway around which smart objects are deployed.

This chapter proposes to use workflow management as a mechanism to facilitate an RFID-enabled real-time reconfigurable manufacturing system. The workflow of production processes is modelled as a network. Its nodes correspond to the work (process), and its edges to flows of control and data. The concept of agents is introduced to define nodes and the concept of messages to define edges. As a sandwich layer, agents wrap manufacturing services (e.g. machines, RFID devices and tools) and their operational logics/intelligence for cost-effectively collecting and processing real-time manufacturing data. Some referenced frameworks and architectures of manufacturing gateway, shop-floor gateway and work-cell gateway are constructed for implementing the RFID-enabled real-time reconfigurable manufacturing system. The shopfloor gateway is mainly discussed where three key components (workflow management tools, MS-UDDI and agent-based manufacturing services management tools) are integrated. By means of web service technologies, each agent can be registered and published at MS-UDDI as a web service that can be easily reused and reconfigured as a workflow node according to the workflow of a specific production process through workflow management to a server for reconfigurable goals. The methodologies and technologies proposed in this chapter will allow manufacturing enterprises to improve shop-floor productivity and quality, reduce the wastes of manufacturing resources, cut the costs in manufacturing logistics, reduce the risk and improve the efficiency in cross-border customs logistics and online supervision, and improve the responsiveness to market and engineering changes.

Recent developments in wireless technologies have created opportunities for developing next-gener... more Recent developments in wireless technologies have created opportunities for developing next-generation manufacturing systems with real-time traceability, visibility and interoperability in shop-floor planning, execution and control. This article proposes a work-in-progress management framework based on smart objects such as radio frequency identification/Auto-ID devices and web service technologies in a ubiquitous manufacturing (UM) environment. Under this framework, two types of services (data source service and gateway data service) and WIPA (work-in-progress agent) are designed and developed to manage and control the real-time materials and information flows to improve the optimal planning and control of the entire shop floor. During production execution, real-time visibility explorers are provided for operators and supervisors to reflect the real-time situation of current manufacturing environment. It follows a simple but effective principle: what you see is what you do and what you do is what you see. Production disturbances could thus be detected and fed back to decision makers for implementing closed-loop shop-floor control. In addition, some important standards such as ISA 95 and business-to-manufacturing markup language (B2MML) are adopted to establish the information model and schemas of WIP called wipML (work-in-progress markup language). Based on B2MML and wipML, the real-time manufacturing information can be effectively encapsulated, shared and exchanged between gateways, WIPA and heterogeneous enterprise information systems. The presented framework is studied and demonstrated using a near real-life simplified shop floor that consists of typical manufacturing objects.

One of the most outstanding achievements of the Occupy Movement was its artistic creation during the occupation, inside and outside of the occupied zones. The movement triggered an unprecedented outburst of creative expressions, turning the occupied zones into giant theaters and galleries that provided new definitions of political/community art. Outside the occupied zones, there were also countless images, texts, and animations delivered via websites, e-mail, and Facebook. The adaptation of popular culture not only created commonly identified images and values, but it also generated a sense of humor with a touch of cynicism, which is typical of Hong Kong's pop culture. Starting at the turn of the century, when street protest became a common activity in Hong Kong, a new concept called “happy confrontation” was invented. This was a belief that political confrontation could be undertaken in a ce...

Early diagnosis and timely surgical intervention are paramount to optimize outcome. Time to fasciotomy is the most important prognostic factor. The purposes of this study were to describe a case presentation of neonatal compartment syndrome associated with a compound birth presentation and to perform a literature review. In this case, the neonate’s fingers were noted to be present on maternal cervical examination 24 hours before delivery. The patient then was noted to have a sentinel skin lesion. A diagnosis of neonatal compartment syndrome was suspected, and she underwent urgent fasciotomy. Literature review identified a total of 60 patients from 26 studies. Most patients were managed operatively. All patients presented with a sentinel skin lesion, emphasizing the importance of this clinical sign in diagnosis. Manometry is not routinely performed and no standards are available for acceptable pressure gradients.
