There is an accumulation of factors which influence the behavior of the ship in the studied situation, and the combined influence of these factors usually determines the behavior when the SQUAT phenomenon appears. The most important of these is the coefficient (block coefficient), which is a constructive characteristic specific to each ship. The object of the present article is to present the relationship between the value of the bottom coefficient and the way in which the trim of the ship modifies when the SQUAT phenomenon takes place.

By using the lock chamber, the equalization of these levels is being done. In order to accomplish this, it needs to be filled (drained) with water. Filling or draining the lock chamber with water is usually done gravitationally from or by the two pools. The watergates are fitted with filling (drainage) sistems made up of pipes, gates, in-going-out-going water outlets, etc. The application of our mathematic undertaking will to establish precisely the necessary flow for a certain design requirement- the speed of the level of liquid from the lock chamber, making reference to the most common case – the filling sistem through free fall with the help of some detouring galleries of the gates

Characterization of C-Ti multilayer thin films obtained by TVA technology

The nanostructured films consisting by 100nm Carbon base layer and seven 40nm alternatively Titanium and Carbon layers were deposed on Silicon substrate. As well, to give C-Ti multilayer films with different percentages in Ti and C of layers, a 100nm thick Carbon base layer was deposed on Si substrate, and then seven Ti-C layers, each of these having thickness of 40nm. In order to achieve the successively layers with C, and Ti different percentages, were adjusted the discharge parameters of C and Ti plasma sources to obtain the desired composition of layers. Also, were obtained composite films having a variable C: Ti atomic ratio 9:1 at interface to 1:9 at the surface. By changing of substrate temperature from room temperature to 100°C, 200°C, 300°C, 400°C respectively, and on the other hand the bias potential up to –700V, different batches of samples were obtained. Characterization of structural properties of films was achieved by Electron Microscopy technique (TEM, STEM) and GIXRD techniques. The measurements show that increase of the substrate temperature reveal changes in TixCy lattice parameters. Thus, according to GIXRD analysis it was found out that the Ti:C atomic ratio changes with increase of synthesis temperature. Also, in the case of composite films an increase of amount and sizes of TiC nanocrystals with the increase of energy of Ti ions determined by increase of bias voltage was observed. The tribological measurements were performed using a ball-on-disk system with normal forces of 0.5, 1, 2, 3N respectively. Was found that the coefficient of friction depends on the synthesis temperature and on the bias voltage. It is also noted that the friction coefficient depends on the pure C content, Ti content and amount of TiC nanocrystallites. These results are due to atomic diffusion at Ti/C interfaces and also are associated with amount of TiC nanocrystallites. To characterize the electrical conductive properties, the electrical surface resistance versus temperature have been measured, and then the electrical conductivity is calculated. Using the Wiedemann-Frantz law was obtained the thermal conductivity.

Advanced analysis of the transverse bulkhead of the a general cargo ship
IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2016

T... more The paper presents the main strength factors stressing the transverse bulkhead of a cargo ship. The transverse bulkhead is one of the main components of the hull for a general cargo vessel. There are presented the role and the importance of the general cargo vessel's type using an original drawing made in NX 8.0 Software from Siemens. Further on, we are presented the importance of the transverse bulkhead of the general cargo ship's hull. Next there are analysed the formability of the transverse bulkhead's material and then we are determining the shear, normal and von Mises stresses in the traverse bulkhead, using the finite element method. Once the stresses are computed, there are also determined the fatigue life, strength safety factor and fatigue safety factor. The analysis of the transverse bulkhead is important for the safety of the general cargo vessel type because if this component of the ship does not resist to the various stresses and high deformations during bad storms on the sea or if the cargo is stored inappropriately, deformations or even breakage of the transverse bulkhead can occur, thus causing damages of the cargo ship, especially under heavy storm.

Studies have shown that external costs (as accidents, congestion, air emissions, climate change or noise) are an important subject of the European Union, that is why were carried out several research projects. This paper will highlight the current requirements and methodologies used by the European Union regarding the impact of the external costs of urban transport in most of the growth poles of Europe. Taking into consideration that Constanta is considered to be one of the seven major growth poles of Romania for the 2014-2020 period, this study aims at analyzing how the results of similar studies made in others centers of the European Union can be applied in Constanta, showing different methodologies and evaluations regarding the external costs and their impact. We will analyze how the conclusions obtained in previous projects are applicable to data collected by us throughout a field research on the technical description of the means of transport used it this city. As methodology, we will use one that was adopted by the European Union regarding the estimation of urban external costs, taking into consideration that each externality has a different method for estimating it. The results of this study may be useful in developing the sustainable urban mobility plan for Constanta, as a strategic plan design to reduce the impact of urban transport for a better quality of life at present and in the future. Through this paper we will get an insight into the urban transport in Constanta, but also data on external costs generated by the urban transport, given that road transport is considered to be the most polluting transport mode.

Between the movement of the ship, the movement by rotation causes serious damage to the ship's equipment and their performance. There have been many efforts to invent or create certain equipment in order to eliminate these adverse effects. However, few types of equipment have had the same impact on the stabilization of the rollers and systems with active wings stabilizers. In the recent years have been carried out more research for the improvement of systems of the stabilizer fins. The anti-roll fins are a stabilization, reducing the rolling in the hull of the vessel using the elevator fin general designed on both borders of the keel.
